I've been invited to a podcast

This blog is pretty easily summed up by the title. I've been invited to appear on a podcast, specifically The Barcast. They interview a variety of notable, or perhaps notorious, people from among the fandom and I'm their latest choice. I'd say they must be scraping the bottom of the barrel in that case, but I'm too flattered by the attention to say no. They are taking audience questions here (

New DF: Extra Stuff and still doing things!

The title honestly says it all. I just published a new chapter of Dresden Fillies: Extra Stuff, which is the collection of odds and ends of Dresden/MLP crossover that doesn't quite fit into my main stories. In this case it's a story inspired by a reader comment 'What if Fluttershy picked up one of the Blackened Denarius?". My answer to that was so involved (over 13K words) that I considered

    I HAVE AWOKEN

The timetable for new chapters is questionable, but rest assured faithful readers that my hiatus is over and new chapters will be coming.

Not dead yet, but not writing either

So this is a blog post I should have done a while ago and I'm sorry for not saying something sooner. As it turns out, the final year of getting my doctorate is the most time-consuming thing I've ever done in my life. Between a full 40 hours a week fulfilling school requirements, having a part-time job on the side to continue living and maintaining the bare minimum of social interaction with

If you enjoy the Dresden Files RPG or resolutions this is the place for you. · 6:58pm Jan 6th, 2016

This year I've decided that my New Year's resolution is to publish at least one chapter of a story (Gregor McAwesome doesn't count) each month of 2016. Last year was the first time I ever set a serious resolution for myself and I managed to met it, so I'd like to see if I can have as much success in my second as I did with my first. And speaking of Gregor, well, I think we have enough data to agree that that experiment was not a success. I'll probably still update it every now and again when the mood grips me, but that's part of experimenting: seeing what works and what doesn't.

Just for fun, when I was planning exactly what the Mane 6 and Spike would be able to do in their human forms I stat'ed them out using the system from the Dresden Files RPG.

+5 Pinkie:Being Pinkie.

Ahh, that brings back memories of good times on tabletops.

A monthly basis is good, as you can spend one of the free days a weekend or so, first one to set out the story base for the chapter, second and third to write down the story, working out which ideas should be pulled in or put back in the morgue, fourth weekend for editing and cleaning up? Of course, depends how fast you go, and how much the universe doesnt want you do proceed.

Is Dresden RPG fully self contained or does it use a well established core such as PF,D20?

-8 Physical Immunity: You cannot be harmed

+6 The Catch: Non-fire (you are only immune to fire)

Ahh good ol DFRPG, where the easiest way to stat 'immune to fire' is 'immune to all damage, except for damage that isn't fire.'

3668268 It uses a modified version of the FATE system, but it is fully self contained and you don't need to buy any non Dresden core books.

I got to say that you made interesting stats for the Mane 6 and Spike. BTW, are you going to make a chapter for January for Firefly and then a chapter for Dresden in February? Or will the next chapter be on February since you already published a chapter in January?

Pinkie's entire sheet is great.

Of course, now that you've posted everyone's stats, people will be able to crosscheck it with story events, and then call you out if something seems to conflict. Hopefully that never gets annoying.

3668268
It is part of the FATE system, but the Dresden books for it are self-contained. You don't require any regular FATE books.

3668304
If this were an actual character sheet I'd have shorthanded it to -2 Physical Immunity: Fire, but the full details never hurt.

3668315
Dresden Fillies counts as the January chapter.

3668427
Thanks, I had a lot of fun making those. If anybody does I can always justify with 'they rolled high/low' :trollestia:

3668304
In fact, IIRC, Evil Hat Productions tinkered with the rules for the original version of FATE to make the system work better for DFRPG.

3668495
Or "they spent Fate Points".

Unfortunately for me, the only game of DFRPG I've been a part of was a kind of hybridized Dresden Files/Atomic Robo mix (AR using a later version of the FATE system than DFRPG). The game basically ended up being Fullmetal Alchemist set in New Orleans.

Of course, the final battle of the campaign got kind of hilarious. We were on a platform surrounded by a bottomless pit, and my character was a kinetomancer. I took out half of the bad guys on my own just by force pushing them off a ledge.

At last we have the settings magic system revealed.

I suppose it wouldn't be possible for Spike to have stats more suited to an actual Dresden verse dragon -- they're pretty much physical gods.

Ahh the Dresden Files Rpg... one of these days I need to actually learn the system instead of laughing at the notes in the margins.

Lmao at world champ of the quiet game, rule of funny, and Twilight 'OP' Sparkle.

Anyway if you think you can do monthly chapters more power to you.

I really enjoyed this blog post, it started me working on a write up for Sunset Shimmer (which I might post at some point), I do have a question though. How do you consider the Lawbreaker powers for those who it applies to? Obviously Twilight is the primary culprit here but multiple characters could be argued to have done it.

It's funny to think about but Twilight has broken the majority of the Laws at one point or another and would be a Lawbreaker: Second Law (multiple counts), Third Law (multiple counts), Fourth Law, and Sixth Law (multiple counts). In most cases it was for heroic reasons or with consent but that doesn't matter in the Dresden Universe much. Do you just ignore them because she's from another universe/isn't human or would you include them if you were doing a more full write up? Man those would be some crippling Refresh Penalties (-9 from the Lawbreaker penalties alone?)...

Shouldn't RD, as the bearer of Loyalty have a higher Conviction, or some sort of Stunt to make up for it being so low?
August 2023 edit: Much less important but with Winter wraps up and her character arc going into rulership, maybe Twilight could be argued to have Leadership?
