Struggles + Seattle Angel's Review of Luna's Coffee! · 6:54pm Jan 3rd, 2016
It's a dry streak, for sure. I usually have these periods of blockage (not writer's block, just an "I'm stuck, ideas are not sticking" moment) where nothing seems to work. All I have are one-shot ideas, which are not the stories I want to write right now, but they are all I have, so...
No time like the present?
Also, holy fuck, Seattle Angels gave me a review. If you haven't seen it, click on this text to see it.
Due to this review, Luna's Coffee has jumped past 1k views. That's a lot of views.
So, in honor of the review, I'm going to post my response here to some of the words they said (just some so the whole review isn't spoiled).
Archonix:
This simple structure is repeated throughout, examining a thought and then condensing it into a single line.
Yep. My way of thinking is based around this simple structure. In fact, ideas come to me like this. After all, Luna's Coffee was based on the simple thought of mulling over coffee while I mulled over my own cup of coffee.
Seriously, it was. Drinking coffee while writing leads to coffee in stories.
Whether intentional or not, the story follows a cycle very similar to the phases of the moon.
So someone got my hidden agenda? I feel special. The story was written during the time when the moon was at its highest, and when it was beginning to descend. This was also when I stayed up til three, to where I went to bed when I saw the moon outside my bedroom window.
So yeah, basically, I had the moon in mind when writing this too.
And just to mention, I love your interpretation of how Luna is anchored in the story. It's like you read my mind or something... Not really, but you're pretty close!
Themaskedferret:
This is a fic that manages the almost unthinkable: It makes me want to drink coffee.
Drink more of the sludge you despise! I drank a cup this morning, can't you tell?
Coffee poop, blegh.
Note to self: never try Luwak.
It looks distinct on the page before you even begin reading it, and it doesn’t fall into the trap of unique formatting for the sake of it like some stories do.
Learned that lesson in the Writeoff recently. I should probably go back to my old roots and just write for the sake of "this feels right" not "this looks cool". Thanks for the wake up call.
That idly half asleep state you get into, where you brain relaxes and free-association comes naturally, though without the need for inkblots.
Surprised by this, since I'm always in this state of mind. The college life makes me do this now.
It's not a bad thing though, just sleep is now a valuable thing to me.
This to me, is a Luna worth getting to know.
She's quite a Moon Pie of Butts Princess, ain't she?
Yeah, overall, these two reviewers are awesome. Thank you so much for reviewing my fic! I'm glad you both enjoyed it!
Great way to start 2016! This was totally not a counter to last blog.
