Happy Belated New Year’s, Everypony! (As well as Some Notes on “The Game” and a Quick Update) · 8:24am Jan 3rd, 2016
Hey, everyone! 2016 is finally here, so get those new calendars ready because time waits for no man, woman, or pony. Hope you all had a great New Year’s celebration as well as a wonderful Jinglemas or whatever it is you do to celebrate the Winter Solstice. I would have posted this blog earlier, but alas, plans hardly ever work out as expected. As it is, I don’t think I’m too late to join in on the festivities, so I wrote a new story for you all to enjoy as a way to say thank you for taking the time to read my work. Here’s the link, if you’re interested.
In other news, I’m only just realizing this as I write this blog, but I totally forgot to make a New Year’s resolution this year. Guess it just slipped my mind somehow. So I guess this year’s resolution will have to be to remember to make a resolution for next year.
For those of you who are still reading this, I suppose you want to hear me say a few words on The Game. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the inspiration for this fic came from a dream I had not all that long ago. After I woke up, the dream really stood out to me, and I wrote down as many details as I could so I could use them in this story. I ended up writing the first draft of what would become The Game later that night in a single sitting, along with starting a couple other story ideas. My inspiration can be fickle, but when it’s there I always end up being very productive.
As for the dream itself, the starting scene where Big Mac is playing baseball is pretty similar to what happened in my dream, but there are some distinctions between my dream and the story. In my dream, I started off in a store that sold sports equipment with my dad. I picked up a bat and walked through the back door, where a baseball diamond awaited me and the events of The Game occurred. Instead of a dugout, however, I went back to the store, and my father was nowhere to be found. The biggest difference between my dream and The Game, however, is that in my dream my dad came back for me. The last scene where Big Mac was awake didn’t really happen, but I thought it worked well for the story I wanted to tell about the character, so I threw it in.
As a final note, I’d like to give you all a quick update on the status of the Dreamscape sequel. Work so far has been a little slower than I would like, but progress is being made. I have an outline drawn up already with how I want the story to go and the order of events, and the writing process is currently underway. I have some free time between now and Spring semester, so I hope to get a lot of writing finished before school hinders my progress further. Hopefully the wait won’t feel too much longer and I hope this story helps make up for the long break between the two stories. That’s all for now, so I’ll see you guys next time. Have a great year, everyone!
