Holy crap, that was a good movie.
As it turned out, roughly 90% of the spoilers I came across were true, but it doesn't matter. I was having so much fun that I completely forgot the spoilers until about 30 seconds before they were confirmed. Yes, even the big one.
As far as what the movie's like... well, at the risk of sounding facetious, imagine if J.J. Abrams directed a Star Wars movie, only this time it actually took place in the Star Wars universe instead of the Star Trek universe. Seriously, the movie reminded me of Abrams' 2009 Trek reboot as much as the original trilogy (and in case you're wondering, in my book, that's a very good thing).
My overall impression was good, but:
My biggest problem is JJ's usual problem of pacing. The entire movie felt like it took place in an especially bad monday afternoon. There was no sensation of any time passing at all in the background.
And Kylo Ren was dark and menacing until he took off the helmet. First thing that came to mind was starting to call him "Pouty McBignose".
Otherwise a most excellent movie.
But then again, anyone fed a 3-course meal of dog shit will think even a dry cracker for dessert would be a taste explosion.
Im just glad this feels like the originals in terms of flow. Instead of juat a series of events that the prequels felt like.
I thought there were too many plot holes, protagonists completing goals too easily. Limited plot, not much backstory or non-action scenes, mostly recycled from episode 4. Great graphics and action scenes tho.
I was actually planning to send you a PM mixing real and could-be-real-but-aren't spoilers just to try and remedy the problem. ThenI got back and you had already seen it. Oh well, at least we both enjoyed the movie.

Pretty much. I found a lot wrong with it, enough to make my own Cinema Sins video if I wanted to.
It looked nice, and sounded nice, and that's unfortunately all the nice things I have to say about it.
