So, Derpy's the official name. Can't say I like it. To me, "Ditzy" implies relatively harmless absentmindedness. "Derpy" implies stupidity. It's mean-spirited. They might as well have called her "Special Ed" or some such. Is this really what they want to teach the kids? Oh, well. I guess I have some search-and-replace editing to do. And I suppose "Ditzy Doo" is now assumed to be the blue Derpy lookalike that was seen bringing the birds back during Winter Wrap-Up.
fortunately, the people that don't like it can still just call her ditzy
Actually, Rainbow is exactly the sort who'd thoughtlessly use an insulting nickname without realizing it.
I personally don't see anything offensive with "Derpy", but everypony has their own way of thinkin'.
I understand your reasoning, but I feel Derpy's name has been poorly interpreted. "To derp" means to be silly or clumsy. OK, dictionaries use the word "stupid", but that's because the word "silly", apparently, isn't formal enough to be used in a dictionary description. I mean, we all "derp". We all have our silly, clumsy moments. Those times we stumble over ours words in conversation. The weird clunky steps we stagger over in the middle of town, JUST because there was a shadow on the pavement. I never saw Derp's name as a bi-word for "Retard". And I didn't see Derpy as a mentally challenged idiot. I just saw her as a pony who was different, and wasn't afraid to let her difference show
EDIT: Oh, and by the way... I'm special needs. So... yeah. Derpy WASN'T offensive to me, and I know over 200 special needs children who laughed at Derpy's antics, and saw in her a kindred spirit. You saying "Hasbro might as well of called her Special-Ed" is actually being MORE offensive than what Hasbro ACTUALLY did

I didn't come up with the name. I was referring to this disrespectful one.
2332924 That's fair enough. But I didn't say you had made the name up. I just said that you suggesting that's the name Hasbro "Might as well" have called her is actually more offensive than calling her Derpy in the first place
