Tomb Raider Remake. · 2:19am Dec 10th, 2015

Anyone here remember a wonderful little PS1 title from way back when? Tomb Raider by name and staring the beautiful Lara Croft, the game became popular due to its gun play, great puzzles, top of the line graphics (at the time) and the hotness of said female protagonist. It was fun, silly, and enjoyable for all.

So, I decided to take a look at the series reboot that came a year or two ago. I've been playing for about 3 days now and I have only one thing to say...SWEET CELESTIA, SQUARE ENIX, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU???!!! Seriously, did a British chick kill your family or something?

DOn't get me wrong, its a great game. In the past games we've followed a smart, wise and all around more confident Lara Croft on these adventures. In this game however, we follow a younger, more naive Lara after her ship sinks off shore of a mysterious island. Alone and with a group of mad men out for her blood, Lara must put the skills her mentor taught her to good use if she wants to survive this crazy island. Those skills include firearms, bowman ship, hunting and scavenging. However, as she moves deeper into the island, Lara uncovers supernatural elements somehow tied to an ancient Japanese figure known as the Sun Queen.

Good action, great combat, beautiful environment and an interesting story. The only down side? The game is downright brutal to the main character. Literally the opening of the game has Lara knocked out by some guy on the island, hung upside down in a cave, and then falling from roof only to land on a very pointy metal stick and get stabbed through the side. Form there its one long game of "How many things can we beat a body with before it breaks?" Gun fire, swords, more pointy sticks, rock falls, explosions, and falling to her death. And you get to see, feel and hear every one of them. It'll make you cringe each time.

All and all? Its a god game and I highly recommend it. Just remember, you will cringe at the injuries Lara gets and wonder what's wrong with Square too.

And don't forget, its sequel is already out too.;)

I hear Tomb Raider is pretty good, should probably pick it up at somepoint, remastered version anyway...But your not the only one annoyed with the injuries my friend.

Don't remind me. PLAYSTATION is WELL aware of Rise's release...

3606717 Its is a good game. But just like he says in the review, the violence directed at Lara is insane. You know how in most games if you mess something up, the character just drops or something? Not here. The best example I can give is this one quick time event that happens while falling down a river. There are pointy metal bits all around and you have to move Lara to avoid them. But god help you if you fail because you get to watch the poor girl literaly get stabbed through the under side of her jaw and out the top of her head. And there are a delightful few seconds where you get to watch her face as she tries in vain to pull herself off, just before the life leaves her eyes and the screen goes grey.

Good game, but visually unforgiving if you mess up.

I have to agree that level of violence is insane. I mean, I've been playing the Last of Us, and the bite when Joel dies by Clicker is scary enough, they don't need to exaggerate the gore level. It seems like Square and Crystal went overboard...And speaking of which, those Clickers, I've never seen something scarier in my gaming career before them.

He almost gave it fifth in the GOTY awards, but it lost next to Metal Gear Rising Revengance, as he puts it "Cyborg Ninja Flipouts beats dirty depressed people getting the shi* kicked out of them"
