Christmas Rant · 12:30pm Dec 9th, 2015
Don't usually do this, but I need to get this off my system.
It's not just that, oh no. Major store chains specifically wait until Christmas to bring their mascots out, make a spiffy new ad to make kids buy toys (sometimes they don't even bother doing that), then bring them back into hiding until next Christmas.
And if that wasn't bad enough, every Christmas I see the exact same ads for the exact same toys played ten times a day. And I mean the exact same--the ads were virtually unchanged since the early 2000s, they're still in 4:3! I'm starting to miss the times when we didn't have a local version of Cartoon Network--we only had the channel for half a day, but at least the channel didn't have to deal with this bullshit. (Then again, the ad spots that are currently on Cartoon Network are few and far between, most of the ads are for the channel's programming.)
Nowadays Christmas is just an excuse for store chains to sell more stuff, just like Black Friday. It's because of this that I mildly despise Christmas. (Before you take the wrong impression, I do still stay up until midnight to open the presents. And I got a sweet PlayStation gamepad last Christmas that works great with my laptop--it actually came with a driver CD, none of that MotionInJoy crap--so I'm not complaining.)
