Random Day Blog (2): A quick college finals break while discussing something irksome. · 6:43pm Dec 8th, 2015
My main focus of my stories may revolve around the anthro genre, but I do still read pony version fics on the site. That said, I want to bring up something that keeps coming ip in these types of fics that NEEDS to be said from one who's a stickler for anatomy in writing and art.
YOU DO NOT DESCRIBE A PONY'S FORELEG AS AN ARM.
I'm not kidding, they may be writing a pony fic, but it's like some of these authors still have some kind of human mindset to refer said species' foreleg as an ARM. That's anthro territory. If you're describing a pony, you refer it as a foreleg or front leg. PONIES DON'T HAVE ARMS.
Does anybody else cringe at this when they see the same thing? Call me a grammar nazi if you must, but I've read too many fics that has these mistakes published on the web.
I'm not asking for much, but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS PONY AND ANTHRO ALIKE GET YOUR BIOLOGY AND ANATOMY STRAIGHT.
That is all. Until next time,
This is Dudeler, signing off.
P.S. I'm almost done with schooling I'm hoping to get the next chapter of TMS posted around Christmas. Keep on the lookout.
100% agree. Interchanging forelegs and arms just confuses people.
This is how I feel when people mix up anthro, and humanized. Really f#cking annoying to see such. There are way to many humanized ponies stories that have the anthro tag.
Well actually, if you really want to bring biology into this, the people referring to arm/forearm are the ones who are right.

There isn't actually a part of a horse/pony called the foreleg.
The only time that it should be justified for a pony's foreleg to be referred to as an arm, will be if that pony is a former human and if it's a story told from that perspective and not in 3rd person. Because I think it's normal for a person who doesn't study pony anatomy to refer to the forelegs as such since they wouldn't think of that otherwise.
To be honest it's funny how far some authors will go with this. I think i've read at least 2 stories that while decent I thought were anthro till almost halfway through when they started correcting themselves. It was jarring and almost funny as every character in my head suddenly went from 2 legs to 4.
OMG thank you from the bottom of my frog.
YOU DO NOT DESCRIBE A PONY'S FORELEG AS AN ARM.
this is one of my he pet peeves.
I always use foreleg, but the word forearm has a specific meaning in equine anatomy (from Wiki: the area of the front leg between the knee and elbow, consisting of the fused radius and ulna, and all the tissue around these bones; anatomically, the antebrachium.)
ive ran into it were they say hand instead of hoove and have them use it like they got fingers
3602922 3603425 Yeah, but this is Wikipedia we're talking about. Anyone can go onto any article to add and edit new information, right? I just don't see it as a credible source for info.
3603589 The source is indicated in the article we both referenced, the Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria.
Yeah, no. Horses absolutely have parts of their forelegs that use arm terminology.
