GREAT FINALE · 9:13pm Nov 28th, 2015
really tho
So yeah, this was a pretty fantastic finale for this season.
All of the Bad Futures were insanely interesting. My favorites are the WWII allegory and Nightmare Moon's takeover, particularly because of the character redesigns. These deuto-canonica AUs were just brimming with fanfic fuel.
dat ear do; Dash is a badass commando in this au
The Piestars doing their Piestar thing
God she's so cute even when she's being evil and shit

Also, I suppose Equestria operates on a linear timeline, so this doesn't completely spit in that Future Twilight episode's face or anything. I was a little bit surprised that there was no sign of Twilight in any of these bad futures, but presumably, since she fails her entrance exam into Celestia's school, she's probably at home, eating ice cream, avoiding all of the chaos because when it knocks politely at her door she's just really not feeling up to it at all.
Also, I'm super interested to see where the "Starlight learns about friendship" thing goes come Season 6. After Season 5's finale was so "series finale" feeling, it's good that Season 6 shows more anticipation for the future. There's so much stuff in this season that's setting up the next season. The CMC's Cutie Marks and newfound purpose, Rainbow Dash's continued success gaining the attention of the Wonderbolts, Rarity's new boutiques, and now Starlight Glimmer being redeemed and learning about friendship. I for sure wanna see Starlight and Trixie meet; Equestria's most powerful unicorn meets Equestria's most egotistical unicorn who has already met Equestria's newest Alicorn. Shit'd be cash, yo.
Also Spike was okay in this episode and that is good.
someone make this a freeze frame and superimpose the credits over it while Out of Touch plays

Well, it certainly sounded like a good episode...though I am a bit let down by Starlight's motives.
She was willing to doom all of Equestria to get revenge for her utopia, which she did in the first place because she was sad over one of her friends leaving to pursue his or her calling?
I could be mistaken, but it seems a little extreme, given how bad things could had gone.

3575429 My take is that Starlight did not believe she was dooming Equestria through her actions. Remember that her philosophy is built around a denial of individualism and exceptionalism. From this point of view, changing the lives of six individual ponies, no matter how special those ponies are, should not have such a large effect on history. But once Twilight shows Starlight that she's wrong, after she revisits her past and remembers the power of a broken friendship, Starlight realizes the error in her thinking and gives up her quest for revenge against Twilight.
