Dat Finale

So, that was fun...

...and it made me think. See, I know a certain someone who likes to go ooon and oooon about how the show was supposed to go, under Lauren Faust's original outline. The tl;dr is: Celestia dies, Discord remains bad, Twilight ascends and takes her place. While some parts of Her Faustness's storytelling abilities are quite good, and I can't but agree that it would have been more epic, overall I really don't care for that.

I like Celestia. I like my fluffy pony universe where the immortal godlike rulers stay immortal and godlike. I have no problem with growing pantheons. I also have no problem with the show going on far longer than Faust's original planned three seasons...

But anyway, I can't help but note that, in some ways, we've come around to the same sorts of ideas in the show as it is, with Twilight taking on a 'student' in her specialty. It's a cycle, as it is in real life, but it's just not one that requires the older part of the cycle to get rekt in some inspiring tragic death scene.

Which brings me around to my WTF of the day, because I've been reading stuff about the (now partially defunct) Star Wars extended universe in preparation for the new movie (NB: I never read any of the books or played the EU games). So I've got that canon in the back of my mind, and I realized something. In comparison to the original Faustcanon, our current state looks much more like a Jedi ending. Contrast to Faust's Rule-of-Two Sith ending, where the teacher must die in order for the student to become the teacher of the next generation.

New headcanon: Faust(icorn) is a Sith Lord. Darth Faust. So I think we can all be thankful her AU got the kibosh from the Hasbro Jedi Council and their chosen Knights. Thanks, Jedi Master M. A. Larson!
