It's been a ride these past seven months, and long have I pondered what was the best song, who was the best new character, most unexpected moment, and also the opposite end of the spectrum; worst new character, worst episode, etc.
What do you folks think?
I'm hoping against hope that there are no songs in the upcoming finale, because my choice is hard enough as it is. Ingram has certainly earned his paycheck this time, that's for damn sure.
But here's what I won't be counting:
Slice of Life
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED this episode. In retrospect, it was amazing fan service, and was absolutely ridiculous for ridiculousness' sake. In the end, the contents of Slice of Life are it's own beast, and won't be considered for any category.
Friendship Games
In short, my musical conundrum is difficult enough without tossing My Past Is Not Today, Friendship Through The Ages, Acadeca, Unleash the Magic, and Right There In Front Of Me into the hat. Ponies only.
For me, what surprised me most was the Rarity Episode Trilogy. These three episodes help make up for the lack of Rarity centered episodes to date. They were all okay in highlighting Rarity as a character except for the last one.
Favorite Song: We'll Make Our Mark
Favorite New Character: Lady Rara (Loved the references to Lady Gaga)
Damn, what was the song the CMC sang with Diamond Tiara as she rushed to the schoolyard? That one was really good.
3567225 Light of Your Cutie Mark
Favorite song: Anyone who has been following me since July will know it is "I Am Just A Pony"/"Magic Inside You". I was having a really bad time and when that song came on, I bawled like a baby because I really needed to hear it. Hearing it and seeing it in full color on Saturday made me lose it.
Runner Ups: "Rules of Rarity", mostly because of I identified with Rarity's struggle, "The Pony I Wanna Be", because it made me cry, and finally, "We'll Make Our Mark", because it made me cry even harder.
Most unexpected moment: The lesson in Scare Master. I was expecting it to be about Fluttershy overcoming her fears, but instead, the lesson was more about how some things don't have to be shared between friends.
Favorite New Character: Hmm... I wanna say Rara, but I don't know, I really love Moondancer as a reintroduced character. I identify with her a lot for personal reasons and that scene where she broke down made me break down.
Best episode: Damn, this is really, really, hard for me. I love "Amending Fences" to death because of how real it was, but I also love "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" because it was so great to see the Crusaders get their marks. I'm gonna have to say "Crusaders of the Lost Mark", because I find myself going back to it all the time.
Least Favorite Song: Hmm... I don't know, I guess I'm gonna put down that song Mac and AB sang from "Brotherhooves Social". I liked the other ones better and that one was just... meh.
Least Favorite New Character: I'm gonna shit for this, but... I am not a big fan of Starlight Glimmer. I don't hate her, she is just not my favorite character. Her behavior really makes me upset, and not in the butthurt sense, but more in the way that I feel I could vomit. It's because of personal experiences.
Least Favorite Episode: Princess Spike. Seriously, do the writers even try anymore? I really enjoy Spike and the potential he has, but it bothers me to see how they'll just torture him like this. I like him better in episodes where he's being reasonable and standing his ground for what he believes to be right. I could go on about why I didn't like this episode besides how Spike was portrayed.
