The Dastardly Duo (also a quick check-in)

Recently, I realized that I needed to get some art for the less noble side of Set Sail. Our main villain has existed for years now as nothing more than words on a page and ideas in my head, but now we've got photographic evidence that he exists!

    Ten

I made my account here exactly 10 years ago today. A whole decade of occasionally posting words about silly little talking horses and birds. I wish I had something planned but this kinda just snuck up on me. All I have is my thoughts, and I've only got one of those right now.

    I'm getting old.

Follow-up post for Hindsight · 1:33am Nov 24th, 2015

First of all, I want to start this blog with a plug. My boy FamousLastWords just dropped his new fic featuring Coloratura and Spike playing piano together! I helped him with editing and the like, so go support both his and my work!

Head on over there and help us out!

And now, I will be giving a little bit of a follow-up to Hindsight. Head on down below the break for it!

Hindsight has been an interesting experience to both write and release to the public. First off, I'll give a little bit of a making-of story.

Hindsight began life upon my first viewing of "Hearthbreakers", when my OTP was torpedoed by Big Mac and Marble Pie's little hints at romance.

Now if you know me at all by now, you'll know that I am probably the biggest Cheerilee fan you'll ever meet. She is my absolute favorite character from the series, and I think it shows now that 1/3 of my library of stories have her in a starring role. I honestly expect that to rise in the future, but that's another blog for another day.

So, back on topic, I was rather ticked that the show had turned a rather large hype train against me, and it seemed that even some of my fellow Cheerimac supporters were jumping ship to join the bandwagon. People who knew about how much I like shipping Cheerimac began rubbing Marblemac in my face, and frankly, that was what finally kicked the idea to write Hindsight loose. With some encouragement from my buddy Famous, I set forth writing a story that would sort of act to counter the flood of Marblemac in the fandom. It took a little while to really hone the concept down to a workable plot line, but after several days of brainstorming, I began working on the story.

It was... tough, suffice to say. I've never sat down and written romance on a scale of more than a single short scene before in my life, so this was a learning experience. I experimented a lot, working to try and figure out good plot threads to carry the story forward, and pretty soon found my stride. I started getting inside the characters' heads, letting them lead me where I needed to go instead of forcing them to go where I wanted them to go. I didn't originally intend to have Chapter four be a low point where it looked like all was lost, but the story began to turn that direction almost of its own accord, and I must say that I am happy with the way it turned out in the end.

Releasing Hindsight was an equally interesting experience. I got support from a number of my good friends like Calm Wind and Arad, which might have led some of you guys here to find me in the first place. When I released the story, it did pretty well out of the gate, though I noticed a rather distinctly higher number of downvotes than usual. I have a hunch that most of those came from people who oppose the pairing, and I guess that just comes with the territory of writing a story like that goes against a bandwagon. Several hiccups accompanied the release, such as a comment war stemming from a misunderstanding between two of my friends, but all fifteen-thousand words of Hindsight are out, and I couldn't be happier with the results!

So, where do I go from here? Truth be told, I still haven't decided what to write next. Learning Curve is screaming for an update, and there's several other things that I could also work on. We'll just have to see, but in the meantime, I hope you all enjoyed Hindsight, I thank you all for coming out to read it, and I hope to see you all next time!

I am glad you wrote it! Hindsight was a very heartwarming story!

Don't let the bandwagon get you down, CheeriMac is best ship.

It's been a while since there was a genuinely good/detailed Cheerimac story like that. I enjoyed it.
