Happy Thankfulness Day · 10:29am Nov 23rd, 2015
Yeah, I know, Thanksgiving isn't for another couple of days, but I'm thinking about it now.
For a lot of us Thanksgiving is a day where we watch a huge parade, gorge ourselves, and watch football. Well, I don't do the football part. I spend the whole day cooking with my wonderful girlfriend, only to eat the product of a whole day's labor in about fifteen minutes.
I don't want Thanksgiving to be just about the food and the parade and Christmas, because that just makes it yet another product of commercialism, and I'm against that. So I've been trying to take a few moments every day and think of the things I'm thankful for, which I'm going to tell you wonderful people (the three of you that will actually read this).
I'm thankful of course, to Lauren Faust, without whom we would not have colorful cartoon ponies teaching lessons in friendship, and to all the writers, animators, and of course, our wonderful voice actresses/actors who bring them to life.
I'm thankful that I have a roof over my head and that I don't have to wonder where my next meal is coming from.
I'm thankful that I live in a country that lets me express my opinions, no matter how disparaging they are toward the powers that be.
Most of all, I'm thankful for my girlfriend, who's been with me for a third of my life. She's my best friend and doesn't laugh at my craziness. (Well, she does, but she's laughing with me. Usually.) She's into a lot of the things I'm into, and we have fun together, whether it's going out for sushi, playing Sega Genesis games together, watching our favorite colorful cartoon ponies, or just sitting around sipping tea. I can't imagine what my life would be like without her.
That really only scratches the surface of what I have to be thankful for, but it's what readily comes to mind, so happy thankfulness day. I hope you all take a moment to think about the things you have to be thankful for, especially as Christmas approaches and we start to think about what we'll be receiving.
