Writing is an Act of Faith

TLDR: in which I do some somewhat philosophical ramblings about writing, because it's late, it's been a tough week, and I just need to get some words out. The power of the stream-of-consciousness essay should not be understated, even if it's completely counter to the premise of an essay.

I've long held that writing is an act of faith, if not the product of it.

What We Talk About When We Talk About Writing - A Small Update

(At this point, maybe every blog will have a title referencing some literary work, for funsies)

Hi, everyone! I thought I'd drop by with a quick update as to what I've been working on. Nothing too fancy - I'm not good at making a blog look like that - but I figure this might interest some of you.

    Where I'm Calling From

    Introduction: A Confession

    I lied.

Well, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. It would be more accurate to say that I opted for a partial truth. In the words of Carlos Ruiz Zafon, “Perhaps, as always, a lie was what would most resemble the truth”1—and in this fashion, I did lie.

Going to a con might have been just what I needed...

... to get back into the fanfic writing game.

I might totally be jinxing it by talking about it here, but I also think me saying it at all holds me to it, in a way.

Or maybe I'm just superstitious. Many writers are. :P

Progress · 1:53am Nov 22nd, 2015

Well, after a few days of ruminating, I have decided to sit down and start writing the sequel to A Prose By Any Other Name (Which will still be updated ever Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday; hopefully, all chapters will be posted by the end of November). The sequel I have dubbed Streets of Sin, and I have already created some cover art for it.

As you can see, there is some actual lighting elements going on. If you're curious to know, I achieved this through several flashlights (because my room's lighting is terrible for photo-taking). This effect gives a more spotlight kind of look to the story, which is something I want to be able to convey as I go about writing it. As you can see in the above, it will feature Opacare Prose and Sweetie Belle; but there are three other characters who shall also play a larger role. I wonder if you can guess who they are?

Anyway, at the time of writing this, I am sitting at chapter one, with a little over 1000 words written. I will be trying for about 2200 words minimum, but I have no guarantee that I'll be able to stick by that. I also have no guarantee that I'll reach 100,000 words by the end of the project; I can't give an estimate on the end number of words or pages.

But, I am getting that familiar feeling that I've always gotten whenever I start writing something new. It's like butterflies in your stomach, only the butterflies are like physical euphoria, so I feel overjoyed that I'm writing again, but extremely nervous. Luckily, the feeling has been a prime motivator in me getting myself to write.

I am unsure whether I will post the story when I finish writing one chapter, a few chapters, or when I've actually finished the story. Either way, I hope you are all looking forward to this as much as I am.

Cheers, good night, and happy early Thanksgiving!
