Howdy, folks!
I’ve seemingly gone quiet again after that last story release, but don’t fret, I’m totally here and doing stuff! Just…not…super pony related. But! I do have stuff to share for those who might be interested. You may have heard around the site of the Writeoffs, where a bunch of writers work over a (pretty crazy) weekend to write a story from a prompt and then go head to head with other stories in an anonymous duel of fiction goodness, with the authors revealed at the end to reap the shame or glory from a pile of slayed enemies. I might be overselling it. Anyway, the Writeoffs have recently expanded into original fiction contests as well as mlp fanfic, and I participated in the first of those. My participation is going to be a touch spotty, as I’ve got my focus split in a lot of different directions, but I’ll continue making the appearance here and there writing for it. It’s an enjoyable pastime with a pretty vibrant and talkative community, so consider checking it out!
In other news, I started a podcast called Not Writing Time with my buddy Jake! The podcast is (not) writing-related. We cover topics about writing with some advice about approaching things in your own work, heavily interspersed with tangents where we lament our laziness, engage in pop-culture discussions, vent our spleens, and I mispronounce the word denouement solely to annoy Jake.
If you’re interested in checking it out, we’re currently releasing episodes (mostly) weekly on Jake’s Youtube Channel with plans to expand into more traditional podcast outlets once we’ve settled into a good groove. There have been some learning experiences getting it up and running, mostly with audio quality (warning: the first couple of episodes are kind of rough in that regard), but we’ve had fun producing them and if two morons talking about writing, velociraptors with human brain-in-a-jars attached to them, Futurama quotes, Jewish grandma guilt trips, Danny Trejo macheteing dinosaurs, and accidental racial slurs sounds like something you’d like to listen to, all of that can be found in the most recent episode:

Pony does get mentioned on occasion (Jake’s the one who called Fluttershy ‘cancer’ in the first episode, not me, send hate mail here), and considering both Jake and I have fanfic backgrounds a lot of the writing discussion is coming from a perspective of moving from fanfic to original fiction. I encourage anyone who thinks anything I’ve said sounds fun or interesting to give it a try, I’d love to hear back about it.
I don’t really wanna flood everyone’s feeds with announcements for new episodes going up, so I’m not going to make mention of the cast all that regularly here, unless there’s something super-exciting that happens that I think is really relevant to y’alls interests. That’s all I’ve got for now. And while I said I haven’t been doing much pony related recently, I’m going to be taking another fanfic-writing break pretty soon. More to come on that as it develops.
