Jem is totally, totally, totally Outrageous!! · 1:48am Oct 28th, 2015
As a child of the 80's I was psyched up for the concept of another remake from my childhood. I am a total fan of remakes from this era. Mainly since the concepts were okay, many had great potential.
The problem was that the focus was on selling toys, not the story.
So remakes have great potential to be amazing, ie. MLP or train wrecks (Voltron).
This time around it was Jem and the Holograms.
An 80's toon about Jerica, her sister and her foster sisters continuing their mother's legacy of fostering young girls. Professor Benton was a computer scientist/music mogul. He invented holographic images meant for the stage productions of his wife's music career. He also invented an A.I. called Synergy.
When Jerica needed money she created a glamorous pink haired pop-star alter ego called: Jem. Her sisters joined in and became The Holograms, together these women became a glam rock band so they could support the troubled foster girls, in their care. Jerica also used her business degree to take over Starlight Music
Antagonists include former business partner Eric Raymond and his main client The Misfits (also a glam rock band). The main conflict comes from The Misfits not being the most popular group in the world and Eric losing control of Starlight Music to Jerica.
Jerica's main conflict comes from her inner turmoil. She has 2 lives to live, the business woman and the pop-star. She can't keep doing both or she'll burn herself out.
So how did they ruin it? Easy, turn her father into a crack pot inventor. Then make Eric, Erica. Lose Jerica's brains, and her spine. Then make her sisters judgmental dolts. Oh and make Jerica jail bait for Rio, her love interest/new manager. By the way get rid of any semblance of a plot.
