Thinking in writing a sequel to I Dream to Fly. · 12:52pm Oct 25th, 2015
Long time no see, eh? I'd imagine that only four people probably saw I completed I Dream to Fly earlier this year with a closing chapter. Almost one year and a half after the previous chapter. The reason I did that and not just kept it incomplete was because it constantly bugged me how I was one chapter away from finishing what I'd arguably call my best written work.
I'd still say I Dream to Fly is pretty good, even if the title is somewhat misleading as to the whole premise of the story. You could say it gives some unexpected results, but I actually had a legitimate reason for the title being dis-representative of the actual plot. When ever I wrote a chapter, I did it solely through progressive writing and not a pre-scripted story. I never intended the story to go the way it did when I started it, it was all just what ever I could think of at the time of writing.
I'm thinking in making a sequel to the story, something to carry on from considering the amount of unanswered questions the story still has. However if I was to continue with a sequel, it would either very loosely follow the show's current storyline, or my own created story. Back when I first wrote it, Scootaloo was a very subjective character, being able to be bended and changed depending on what story you wanted. Obviously as time went by, she became more developed and now my story is showing it's age when it comes to when it was written.
The things stopping me from making a sequel are more or less the reception it would get. Considering it follows a story which has mostly become outdated because of the show's evolving story, it would be hard to make a sequel that makes any sort of sense for anyone who didn't read the first part. Not to mention the fandom seems very cynical about anything nowadays, which is somewhat intimidating when you would like to have most of your creative freedom intact. I don't know how the community is here, if it's still light hearted and openly accepting of stories that take a different path from the actual show. But considering how developed people have gotten on this site, room for error seems very little as well.
It's just intimidating trying to get back into a community that you used to know what they did and didn't accept, then not knowing and trying to create a sequel to a story which was decently well received back then.
But otherwise, I might be back into writing again. I just want to do something that has a foundation before making a new one myself.
