Chapter 3 of Pony Upstairs revised · 11:09am Oct 25th, 2015
I originally wrote Chapter 3 of "The Pony Who Lived Upstairs" ("Sanitization") in the present tense, which is weird, given that the rest of the story is in past tense. It just felt like it was calling out to be written that way, so I did. I even toyed with writing every third chapter in some weird way, but that never came to pass. So I eventually realized I'd have to go back and fix it. Well, I finally did! It's in past tense now, and I made some other minor changes while revising. The tonal effect is that it feels less 'hard-boiled' now, and more like the kind of slice of life Ron normally gives us.
Meanwhile, I've been working on Chapter 18. I had thought this chapter was going to be called "Antimatter", but so far antimatter hasn't come up, so perhaps not. I'm not quite sure where it goes now. Weirdly, the recent victory by the Liberal Party in Canada's federal election may potentially change the story, as may the recent episode "The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows". But I'll probably try something soon and the rest of the chapter will either fall out, or it won't and I'll try something else.
I still don't know how the story ends, but I'm starting to see how it -probably- ends, and I'm letting myself get drawn that way as if by gravity in a pinball machine.
Hope it ends happily.

Oh man... I have the exact opposite feeling. The last chapters were all I wanted for them, but knowing the cause made everything hollow. It was written wonderfully. I feel sad for all of them, but I could live with a bitter-sweet ending, not every story has to end well.
