After the end of Season 5. I have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to keep as much as possible synced with the show. 100 years into the future, less of what one pony says or does in her day to day live really matters. In Princess Twilight Sparkle's 25th Birthday, it matters more.
I know that my story has an AU tag, but still. I want to try to keep as close to the original as possible. Cadence actually being pregnant and the crusaders actually getting their marks threw me for such a loop that I decided to go back to the 37 librarian, and wait for DHX and Hasbro to take another break, now that I've got time to write again.
Honestly, I'll probably do my best writing after the show ends. Because I won't have any of the 'this conflicts with the canon' concerns.

At times though, canon change its interesting. In my case, I can explain the AU with my story with the canon and says, welll this didn't go that way so it went with what happened in my story. You could do the same XD

There's only ever been one time where I've been unhappy with MLP canon, and that was when Daring Doo was made 'real'. I was looking forward to Twilight Velvet being the author, and having a cool story there where the two Twilights could bond and Rainbow Dash could nerd out.
But no, instead they decided to have the mane6 stand outside of a window and watch a mare get the crap kicked out of her by thugs while they gawked on. Easily my least favorite episode of anything ever, and I sat through the phantom menace in theaters.
Sorry, kind got off on a rant there. In any case, I want them to give me all the good bits for my story before I finish writing it, because if they have something awesome, I want to steal it and make it my own.
