That Awkward Moment when you realize something fits better than you first thought. · 9:22pm Oct 11th, 2015
Had a weird experience a few days ago while working on The Ponies who Played with Fire. You might have seen this blog post where I wrote that Kansas's Sparks of the Tempest almost feels like a theme song for TPwPwF.
Now I never really came across any songs I thought could be considered themes for TDwtDT at the time I was writing it, but for some reason a few days ago I felt the urge to look up the lyrics to Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song. For those of you that don't know, a cover version of this song appears both in a trailer for the American version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and in that film's opening.
Well, I looked up the song's lyrics and (much to my surprise) they could actually fit with what's in store for this fanfic series (Yeah, spoilers: I'm tackling the third book in the trilogy when TPwPwF is over.) much better than I expected. So I guess you could say TDwtDT has a theme song now just like TPwPwF does. Yay.
For your listening pleasure:
(The original version of the song)
The Lyrics (I'll leave you guys to guess what lyrics apply to who and how. Mwahahahaha!):
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.
For variety here's the cover version that appears in the film, along with the opening. Personally, I don't have any real desire to see the movie, but I have to admit these opening credits do look pretty cool. And my Movie Guru Brother (he of the Words of Wisdom from a Younger Brother post) does have Fincher on his list of favorite directors.
*Chuckles* And since it's Sunday, I'll throw in comedian Tim Hawkins's worship parody of the song just for some laughs.
And just because I can, I'll throw in Sparks of the Tempest into this post and include its lyrics this time.
The sparks of the tempest rage a hundred years on
The voice of the dreamer screams, the cause of the pawn
The King and the Queen are gone, each piece is the same
The difference between us is a part of the game
Darkness is spreading like a spot on the sun
The dead are the living in age of the gun
While everyone clamors for the justice they seek
The world is corrupted and the strong take the weak
They mold you and shape you, they watch what you do
The sparks of the tempest are burnin' you through
Spreading like wildfire, fallin' like rain
Though they may promise, they only bring pain
The future is managed, and your freedom's a joke
You don't know the difference as you put on the yoke
The less that you know, more you fall into place
A cog in the wheel, there is no soul in your face
Run for the cover, Millennium's here
Bearing the standard of confusion and fear
Spreading like wildfire, fallin' like rain
Though they may promise, they only bring pain
Blood in the sand, cry in the street
Now the cycle is nearly complete
Ten thousand years, nothing was learned
No turning back, now the wheel has turned
Big brother is watching and he likes what he sees
A world for the taking, when he's ready to squeeze
King and the Queen are gone, each piece is the same
The difference between us is a part of the game
Soothsayer saying now tell me no lies
What is the madness that is filling the skies
Spreading like wildfire, fallin' like rain
Though they may promise, they only bring pain
That's all for now folks. Happy listening. In the meantime, back to work on TPwPwF for me.
Bwhaha lol dat Tim Hawkins parody of the song, hilarious!
Certainly cheered me up after seeing the opening scene for the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo movie. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the cover for the song and creativity put into the scene itself, especially when incorporating the tattoos into it. Especially when the dragon tattoo comes out, super cool. But other that, not a fan But it certainly grabs one's attention, haha lol;)
Great theme song choice for The Draconequus with a Dragon Tattoo

*Laughs uproariously* He should totally put that song on a CD. I'd buy it.
*Shrugs* Eh, more or less my thoughts on it too.
Oh, that just reminded me of something I saw posted on reddit regarding TDwtDT:
*grins sheepishly* Well, I wasn't really interested in preserving the source material's "grit," but I was very interested in writing some decent fluttercord so--Score!
(*Snickers* Though if poor Mr. Larsson knew what I used his plot for, I'm afraid he'd be spinning in his grave so hard we could use him for a fan.)
*Chuckles* I'm glad you approve.

Wait, did u post your story on Reddit or someone simply did a review of it on Reddit?
Haha lol he might be spinning in his grave because you did his story/plot better and therefore really punishing himself;)

Someone posted a link to it in a Little-Known Fanfiction Share Thread on Reddit. It's somewhere in the comments on that link.
*Chuckles* I don't know about necessarily doing it "better," (Though I did have a lot more fun writing my version than I did reading his.) but it's nice of you to say so.
