The problem's with cannon Applejack · 3:40pm Oct 3rd, 2015
... aka why Tradition for the sake of Tradition is bad.
Applejack says, on multiple occasions...."Don't use your magic to harvest the apples"
Why?
Is it because magic affects the taste.... No.
Is it because magical harvesting is inferior.... No. In fact it is superior as fewer apples would be bruised since they aren't falling 10 feet to the ground and the trees would have less damage to their bark.
It is because of.... tradition. It's because her grandparents and her parents harvested it that way.... who were Earth Ponies.
So when a unicorn, who doesn't have Earth Pony strength shows up, she demands they have the strength and stamina of an Earth pony to work on the farm or leave.
This "tradition" of her's is racist.
It would be like an Earth Pony being forbidden from using a candle to light the street lamps... because it was tradition that a unicorn use magic to set them on fire, or requiring a left handed secretary to write beautifully with their right hand.
It really bothers me that such a otherwise nice character engages is such bigoted behavior. (Shame on the writers... shame!)
I think it's better to make stories about realistic people. All of the ponies have some personality problems. If they didn't, the show would be sickeningly sweet, like MLP generation 2.

It's more of a pet peeve of mine that in shows... its always the farmer that's racist.
3496478 No, see, the Pie's aren't racist, because they're New England farmers. It's only Southern farmers that are always racist.
Does that help?
