Friendship Games Review, Spoilers · 3:03pm Sep 28th, 2015
I've seen the light, the light of Evil Twilight Sparkle and I gotta say... let down.
Lets begin: The Equestria Friendship Games takes place in our favorite multi-hued-alternate-dimension involving parallel humanoid versions of our pony friends.
The conflict involves a regional competition with the focus on Canterlot Public High School and Crystal Preparatory School, aka Wondercolts vs. Shadow Bolts. This is a natural conflict found in reality (Ie. public school and private school) so the writers didn't press the bounds of believably, there...
It's the scope of the games that go beyond what would happen in reality. Not many towns can afford to build a temporary triathlon obstacle course the size that is found in the movie.
Gonna give them a break here, fantasy is fantasy. Personally I'd have begged to move to the (still unnamed) town of this school system, but the property taxes have got to be sky high.
The mini-conflicts are what drive the story. "Uncontrolled" magic, jealousy, social awkwardness are the true focus. We also have Sunset Shimmer being frustrated and jealous because the Pony Twilight Sparkle is ignoring her pleas for help.
The climax results in human Twilight caving to peer pressure and becomes... Evil Changeling Twilight Sparkle , okay what the--- she doesn't do anything other than open random portals to Equestria. Then gets saved in the next few seconds. The writers dropped a ball here. Twilight could have done as much, if not more, than what Evil Sunset Shimmer did, get revenge on her blackmailing principal minimum please.
To placate us the writers' put in a fan service scene at the end. Thinking they've been trolling this site and became enamored with the "Twilight gets caught in a time loop" stories.
Any who, let me know what you think.
