Season 5 finale spoiler in Friendship Games? · 8:34am Sep 27th, 2015
Warning: the following contains spoilers for Friendship games and possibly the season 5 finale and is very very VERY long
( not that anyone is gonna read this anyway)
At the end of the friendship games movie, after the sunset with the two stars, Pony Twilight comes through the portal, saying she was delayed due to being stuck in a time travel loop. based on the animatic for the finale, we see Starlight Glimmer listening in on a presentation by twilight detailing the first Sonic Rainboom and the subsequent retrival of the Mane 6 Cutie Marks. Based on this knowledge and knowing that time travel is possible in Equestria (see the episode It's About Time) so its possible that Starlight will use the time travel spell or a variation to travel back to the day of the Rainboom and prevent it from happening, thus causing the Mane 6 to never obtain their cutie marks and possibly preventing them from becoming the Elements of Harmony. The fact that Twilight was aware of the loop in time could mean that she is either unaffected by the time travel or perhaps she follows Starlight into the past, The Santa Claus 3 style. In that movie, Santa and jack frost both go back in time and Jack prevents Santa from ever becoming Santa in the first place, however, Santa still kept his memories of his time as Santa rather than lose them all due to his timeline never happening. after the timetravel, he was transported to the new modern day, replacing the memories of that new timeline with his original ones, meaning up until that point he had been living a different life without his memories until the time of the time travel. This could be what happens to Twilight. also this means that the movie takes place at the same time as the finale. If thats true, then it seems that no one in the other world was affected by the loop twilight mentions, which is odd since, if the loop does somehow affect the Mane 6 drastically changing their futures, then that might that Twilight never became the Element of Magic, Sunset has nothing to steal, thus none of the movies happen. so what does this mean?
So if anypony read that any thought on what all this could mean for the finale, the movie, or the show as a whole?
Wibbly wobbly timey wimey. Try not to think about it too much.
Actually, the future affects the past more so than the past does the future. That might sound crazy, but time isn't linear. Now, when you start folding time around itself (thus the loop) That's when points in time that never should have touched do. The memories area actually a form of multiversal bleed, usually only affecting the main source of the anomaly (AKA Twilight) at the point that shouldn't have touched. Now, assuming I'm not missing anything, This sort of spell would cause a dis-balance, seeing as harmony is woven into the universe. What happened was always supposed to happen, their places as the bearers of the elements is what created the rain-boom. It's connected to the elements. Now, when the time loop starts, it isolates itself, or Harmony isolates it because it's, for lack of a better term, a doomed timeline. This isolation keeps the loop and the main timeline as separate events. think of it like a smaller bubble on the side of a larger bubble. It's not like that at all, but if that imagery helps. Now, that's how the time spell doesn't affect anything. in it's about time, the loop is stable, it conforms to harmony. Changing the past disbalances it and harmony displaces it to protect itself, like a failsafe. Unfortunately, anyone caught up in the magic of the timeloop is subject to the multiversal bleed, as aforementioned. Escape from the loop results in the cycle being broken and aforementioned doomed timeline eventually collapsing around itself like it never existed. It's techinically created and destroyed in the same moment, relative to the timeline. Erego, Twilight returns not that long after the loop would have been placed, possible slight timelapse due to magical displacement and harmonic reconstruction.
I imagine. It's all just theory.
