Let's go, Wondercolts! · 2:16am Sep 27th, 2015
Josh Haber, I must tip my met hat to you. I know I gave you a hard time back in Season 4, but you've really turned yourself around here.
Warning: Spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.
Yep, I just got finished watching the live stream of Friendship Games. Again, reviewing is not really my thing, but I cannot stay silent about this. So, what's there to like about this one?
1. Human Twilight
Honestly, she stole the show. Unlike her pony counterpart, she had to work in an environment where no one cared about friendship. That would make anyone disheartened about the whole concept. I really felt for her, just like I felt for Sunset Shimmer in Rainbow Rocks.
2. The Songs
Just like with Rainbow Rocks, the soundtrack is amazing. Although that's not really a surprise for me; ever since I heard those chorus of the main theme in the trailer, I couldn't get it out of my head. I still can't, honestly.
3. The Action
This was a major thrill ride compared to the other two movies. There wasn't really a dull moment to be had, which really made for a compelling watch.
4. Sugarcoat
Can we all just agree that Sugarcoat is Best Deadpan Snarker? Seriously, there isn't one line she said that didn't have me cracking up.
5. The Story
Again, very tight and cohesive. The pacing at the end felt a bit rushed, but not unbearably so.
6. The Villain
While Principal Cinch wasn't as compelling as the Sirens, I'm glad they chose to have a villain solely from the Human World for a change. Plus, the way she manipulated Human Twilight is just, ugh~. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. I can't tell if she's more or less disgusting than Starlight Glimmer, though.
7. The Climax
Like with Rainbow Rocks, I can't bring myself to spoil this one. Just know that it's incredible, and you have to see it for yourself.
So overall, very nice. I don't know why they decided to release it in the middle of the season (especially since I think they spoiled the plot of the finale in the stinger), but I'm no networking executive. If you find some way to view it, I'd highly recommend checking it out.
...
On a side note, those who wanted a sequel to Reformation Buddies might get their wish now that this movie has brought all sorts of new world-building to the table. It might be a while before I have a fully-structured idea (I'm not even sure what Character Tags I would use), but I think I can find a way to make it work.
Way I saw the end .. Alicorn Sunset. She is all set to take up Twilight's mantle in the human world.
And as I said in the Sunset Shimmer thread: best magic duel since Twilight vs. tirek.
Is there a link?
Cinch reminder me of wick witch of west and mother gothal roll into one
I LOVED THIS MOVIE!! Towards the end, I got worried they were just copying the first movie with Twilight, but it ended up being absolutely heartrenching and amazing. Don't even get me started on how awesome the animation was! Every division for this movie went all out in the feels and animation and music and story and character design and costume design and... IT IS SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOODDDDD!!! There are not enough words to describe how superfunazingheartcrazygoodrenchingtastic it was!!!!!!!!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed on pretty much every front. Human Twilight was amazing, and her one song "What More is Out There" might be my new favourite from the whole series. Really glad we got a villain song, too.
3422989 Not to my knowledge, but you could look around. Again, I viewed it from the live stream.
Agreed.
I fully support a sequel to Reformation Buddies.
Sugarcoat is best Shadowbolt.
