I'm guessing whoever made the promo wasn't even aware that they were two entirely different series with different settings, characters and genres. About the only way they were alike is that they had Ponies in them. Even in your world, and my own, they took place many centuries apart from one another. In actual vanilla canon, there was no connection whatsoever.
