S5E15 "Rarity Investigates" (SPOILERS) · 4:03pm Sep 19th, 2015

So Rarity's a detective novel buff.

Geez, Rainbow, don't just slam open doors like that!

...yeah they really need to do something about that door.

Wow, Rainbow, could you have made a bigger stain over Wind Rider?

Rainbow's dorky celebration dance is so adorable. It's already all over Derpibooru. It'll be memed to hell and back.

And now we're in a detective noir film.

Incidentally, this is how I would have written it:

It would have turned out that Spitfire herself was the "culprit", in order to give Rainbow Dash the chance to fly with Wind Rider, and it was just dumb luck that her mother showed up when she did.

All in all, this was kind of a slow episode. It wasn't bad, it was just slow. The best thing we got out of this was Rainbow's silly dance and more screen time and personality development for the Wonderbolts.

Oh, and that 40s jazz rendition of the theme song over the end credits.

Next week, we have a new episode...AND Friendship Games!

And just to be absolutely clear about this:

Yes, I will be blogging Friendship Games.

That was a fun episode. I liked it better than last week's.

I suspect I'll like next week's even better, as it's Rarity and AJ go to Manehattan, and Coco returns!

I swear (and I've said this before) that based on the episode titles alone, that Rarity is the main character for like five episodes or so

3403538 There does seem to be an inordinate amount of Rarity this season.

3403538 Actually, the next episode is the last of the Rarity centered episodes of the season.
The episode that'll air after that is a Big Mac and Apple Bloom episode.

Definitely an interesting episode.

3403554 So 3 out of 3 episodes this month are Rarity episodes? People weren't kidding when they said it was Rarity Month huh?

3403650 Yeah.
I personally think it's too much Rarity.
Not because she's my least favorite member of the mane 6, but because having three episodes in a row that focus on the same character would have been too much had it been any member of the mane 6.

I'd personally love to see three Scootaloo episodes in a row. We NEED to know more about her. Specifically, the following two things:
Who she lives with (since all we know is that she has a home)
How she got so obsessed with RD.
There also needs to be a "Sisterhooves Social"-esque episode about the two of them.

Well heck, someone actually predicted a character right; not sure if it was one of your stories Moth or someone else's but there's a fic that has a scene where Rarity and Twilight talk about detective novels and there was mention of The Hardycolts and Nitsy Drew. I might have to scour my favorites to congratulate the author.

3403694 Definitely wasn't one of mine.

(the moment I saw Wind Rider) Gee, I wonder who the culprit is(!) Out of all the ponies in this room, I guess it could be anyone(?)

In all seriousness, I think it would've been a big twist if though Rarity's investigation was in-depth and admirable, she turned out to be wrong, finding out she's not as good as the detectives in her crime novels and that you can't always be AS good as your fictional heroes. Then the real culprit would turn out to be Lightning Dust who was hoping that by making Spitfire leave, SHE would take her place and prove herself worthy of the Wonderbolts title, but it was just dumb luck that Soarin' asked Rainbow Dash before Lightning Dust could enter herself.

Given the appearance of her home, I have this headcanon.
She lives mostly on her own because her parents are often away for work...and that work is important enough, governmentally speaking, that they're able to just wave their hooves and social services stays out of it.

Scootaloo's parents...are members of Their Highnesses' Secret Service! They're Equestrian 00's.

3403873 You mean, like Bon-Bon, I mean Special Agent Sweetie Drops?

3403921
Except still active agents, and sent to deal with political situations rather than monsters.

3403844 So how would that have even worked when Lightning Dust was kicked out of the Wonderbolts in disgrace?

3403954 :rainbowderp:

...

...SCREW YOU AND YOUR LOGIC, LEMME COMPLAIN!

3403873 That would make perfect sense!

all in all a good episode. A bit boring at times, but at other times very amusing.
However the 'twist' was a bit bad, almost Scooby-doo level of bad-guy twists.
Seriously, it was quite obvious he was the bad guy, so there wasn't really any excitement or suspension in the story as we all know who did it.

Also am I the only one that found Spitfires voice a bit... weird? I can't remember if she sounded the same in Rainbow Falls, but she just sounded weird in this episode. She sounded more like a young boy trying to sound like a young girl, rather than an adult.

3404044 It's not just you. Something was definitely off with Spitefire's voice in this ep.

I completely agree with these things you posted.

Also it's a bit weird, there is the "I know it was Wind Rider within 2 seconds of seeing him" camp and the "I thought there would be a twist and it was Spitfire" camp. I'm in the Spitfire camp and was like "this could go either way" towards the end.

And poor Fluttershy looks to be getting the snub job this season. Applejack's not fairing much better
