This Weeks Episode: Canterlot Boutique

How long has it been since I was able to write one of these?

If your answer was anything but a heartfelt, "To long," you good sir or madame are wrong, but let's not dwell on that and let's get back to why we're here.

A synopsis, and my opinions on the new episode.

So, I'm gonna start by (despite what I just said) re-stating that MID-SEASON HIATUS ARE STUPID! Sorry, just felt the need to say that again and explain why it was poorly executed.

Let me give an example of a good (term used very loosely) one Gravity Falls before their return right before this show went on break.

Last episode what happened? The portal opened, Stan's brother stepped out and was reviled as the author. Then BAM my point? We had a mystery, a cliffhanger of epic proportions.

It was still stupid we had to wait, but we had a reason to want to.

Now that that's out of the way, for real episode.

Rarity waiting on mail, Pinkie offers Strawberry, Cinnamon, Cilantro, Cupcake (give it a few days, we'll have a recipe for these and I'll try one_ then gives Rarity her letter explaining the mailpony was sick from his.

So, Rarity's opening a boutique in Canterlot, you know in times before I wouldn't have liked this as I've said in the past Rarity used to be my least like pony, BECAUSE of her fashion, but that changed so seeing her get her dream it feels nice.

Anyway, she shows her friends around, and we meet miss Sassy Saddles

I could tell from moment one she was the antagonist, I mean it was kinda clear but know what else? I could only think, "Dang, she got Blueblood," she is quite the beautiful pony and yeah.

Anyway, she explains her plans for the boutique, this whole pinpoint strategy, and we see Rarity's new dress line.

I'll say this simply THAT LUNA DRESS KICKS SOME SERIOUS FLANK!

I can't find a picture of just it, so you'll need to wait a bit but trust me.

Anyway, part of Sassy's plan was for Twilight to wear a dress because when people see famous people in something they want it.

Let me just say this right now I HATE THIS THOUGHT PROCESS! I'm not saying it's wrong, but I seriously hate it, mostly because it comes back to "celebrity's" you know famous asholes who are famous because we said they could be?

Some of the most deplorable people on the planet like the Kardashiens, or EVERYONE ON TLC!

Sorry, but yeah.

Twilight wears the Princess Dress, everyone buys it.

And before I forget to mention, isn't Cosmo known for something a little spicier than fashion? I'm just saying, I've never picked one up nor do I ever plan to but still.

Anyway Rarity starts making them like an assembly line loosing heart because it's all the same, and let me tell you what this reminds me of.

My true love, gaming.

For those who don't get what I mean, year in, year out, the same slop is hastily re-titled and shoved down our throats.

Call of Duty, Battlefield, everything in the EA sports library, you get the picture so yeah this spoke to me because it was all the same, none of it had soul, yadda, bladda.

Long story short, Rarity finally decides if making everything the same is how to succeed, then she's closing up shop, she puts away all the princess dresses and starts a going out of business sale.

Everyone realizes how much better unique clothes are and that's basically it.

Two ponies I'd really like to point out are a goth pony, and a bright personality pony, like I said before Luna dress awesome.

Before anyone starts shipping, they're sisters and that's not gonna stop anyone is it?

Anyway, Sassy realizes she messed up and is ready to leave but Rarity tells her she's the pony in charge because Rarity always planned on having the HQ in Ponyville, and everything's happy.

So overall, worth the wait? No, nothing ever is because the entire mid-season hiatus is stupid.

What's more though, this episode genuinely surprised me a few times by subverting what I expected.

Let me explain, at first I thought Sassy planned on taking the boutique for herself with all the scene stealing she was doing, but that didn't happen.

then with everypony looking the same I thought there was a bit more sinister plan at work.

Remember episode one this season? Remember the villain's plans? Well what's step one to controlling minds? Controlling clothes! And with everyone the same, everyone would start to have a similar mindset, so yeah I thought Sassy was some kind of commander pathing the way for her return.

But nope.

Really, this was a general episode of be yourself and don't give into the norm.

You're talking to someone who hasn't cut their hair in years, you're talking to someone who always takes the path less traveled with new games, you're talking to someone who really doesn't like social norms so I liked this.

Now for a new segment, NAME! THAT! PONY!!! Where I'll show some backgrounders that I thought were cool and it's up to us to NAME! THAT! PONY!!! Let's go shall we?

First off, the goth and bright ponies from the end of the episode, they're sisters, they're opposites, they're unicorns, and they both own dresses based on princesses.

Next is a red-headed mare that ordered a princess dress but was annoyed that Rarity actually did something different.

Finally, this pony looking for a dress.

For any of these use given fan names, or see if you can do better.

Current given names that I can see on Derpiboru are as follows.

Moonlight raven for the goth pony, Sunshine Smiles for the bright pony, Ghost Pepper for the red-head, and Compact or Sally Styles for the last pony (I don't know which it's supposed to be).
