Hmm darn kinda struggling on how to incorporate Star's Cutie mark into the story without going into extreme exposition. Perhaps a little backstory is required.
To readers of Cloudy Stars, Star is an OC spawned out of Ponychan (ok I probably lost a lot of you there sorry). I honestly did find his cutie mark to be the hardest part of designing him. I wanted something that related a little to his name but I didn't want his Cutie mark to be specifically about star gazing as it really didn't relate to his job. I chucked around the idea of it being indicative of his personality with him being a pony of thought and that he was very philosophical in his world views.
But ultimately I decided on it being a different personality trait: the ability to perform under massive pressure. I remember being told that when the world is coming down around us we show who we truly are. When that happens I wanted Star to be the pony who could handle that, to be able to stand against adversity and prevail. As readers have probably noticed he's really not the bravest of ponies normally. But again in normal life people aren't always heroes. It's when we are called to be hero's that we're truly tested. Ala the cloud covering the star. Star isn't always the hero (we have a mane cast for that) but when the situation is grim Star will rise and meet the challenge.
I probably didn't do the best job explaining his cutie mark but I'm still grappling with how to incorporate it into the story.
P.S. I do have a Cutie Mark Chronicles Story for it set up but that is for another time.
