    Been a while...

Hi folks. How are you doing? Been a while. I like to imagine in the great solar system that if FimFic I'm some trans-Neptunian object that only occasionally comes into view intermittently before wandering out to the cold antipodes of space to which I belong. Personally life has been the same. Some original writing. Glacial progress on Homelands, but its not dead. I'm going to be at EFNW in

    Feeling better. Also, an interview.

So my temperature is almost back to normal and I feel a lot better. Hopefully in a month or two I can get an antibody test and find out if that was C19 or just flu. Anyway, either way, doing better.

I'm also going to be doing an interview for the midair pony faire on twitch. It'll be on Horizons, Homelands, and Worldbuilding in general.

    C19, cons, and other stuff.

So 2020 sucks. It just sucks. I'm sick with something and waiting on a C19 test. Hopefully it's just a flu or some junk.
But there is something good happening on the 25th. Ponyfest Online is a discord con and I'm going to be holding an hour long discussion on character creation, evolution and development.

    and the website is

Another stupid game idea... · 4:01pm Aug 13th, 2015

So, I've got another one rattling around in my brain...

In this fantasy / tactical / RPG / Harem /eroge romance world, human men were created by one god, and female races were created by 8 other goddesses. Yes, women are literally a separate race from men in this world. Essentially the one God made the world and most of the things in it, with the final creation being men. The God then invited a number of Goddesses to see his creation and heap praise upon him. The Goddesses agreed that the world was fine, and if it was okay for them to make a few additions. The God agreed, and the first one created a race very similar to men, but with the ability to create more of their race. The God, quite flustered at this, allowed the creation, women, to remain, so long as they needed men to make more of their race.

At this, the other eight also wanted to make their additions to his world under the same stipulations, and the God, a bit flustered at this, agreed. Thus were elves, dwarves, smallfolk, darklings, Hunterkin, Harpies, and Dragons created. At this, the God, quite incensed by all the additions and tweaks to his world, forbade anymore creations. The five goddesses, thus spurned, curse the 'perfect' creation of man and created monsters and terrible beasts to ravage it in response to the denial. Immortal men became mortal, as did the other 8 races.

The story takes place in the Kingdom of Olderune, where you are the third of five sons. Life is fairly easy. You know that eventually you'll be married off to one of your neighbors for some political advantage to someone either twice or half your age (if you're lucky) or else packed off to a monastery for the rest of your life. So why not have fun now? Keeping your toes out of the fire is your friend Bree, a commoner elevated to special status after being the only survivor of a dragon attack on her village. Also there, but more interested in burnt toes, is Vivina, your elven bodyguard / tutor / babysitter. At 100 years old, she's barely out of her teens herself, but more then capable at keeping you alive. Mostly... if she's not drunk... which she is... often.

All this changes when you are out hunting with your brothers and the king. Separated from the others, you and your brother are set upon by Mongs, wretched mongrel monsters that shouldn't have been able to get within miles of the hunting grounds. Badly wounded, he stays behind so that you can escape, with Bree and Vivina barely able to assist. Unfortunately, when you do, a dark cloud of suspicion falls upon the kingdom. Some suspect you of engineering his death. Others, the second son, now heir and in charge of the army. In order to help demonstrate your innocence and loyalty, you agree to travel to the dwarven holdings to settle a dispute between them and their smallfolk neighbors.

Ultimately you either become king, help a brother become king, abdicate the throne, become a tyrant, or die to save the realm.

Game play revolves around 11 different jobs. With 9 playable characters, you won't be able to field every single one at one time, and so you have to pick and choose. The player character can become any job, while each companion can be one of four different jobs. Only one companion can be the class in the party, so either Bree or Vivina can be a knight. There is no multiclassing, but you can swap jobs at certain points, and each job has 3 levels of power, unlockable through gameplay and your relationships with various companions. The jobs are knight, Barbarian, Duelist, Rogue, Archer, Gunner, medic, dark mage, wizard, shaman, and light mage.

Weapons and armor have a distinct role to play, as they affect accuracy and damage. Thus a Barbarian, which is effective against massive targets with their two handed weapons, will do more damage than a duelist will. A duelist will be more effective against an evasive target with their light weapons. The heavier the armor worn, the less damage taken, but the more expensive offensive abilities will be. Magical armor has a set effectiveness against physical damage (rather low) but has elemental strength and weaknesses (fire absorbs fire, is vulnerable to ice, and is indifferent to wind, earth, holy, poison, and dark magic). Classes have different levels of AOE, range, buffing ability, and debuffing ability.

Combat takes place on a hex map. Victory conditions are given at the start. A tile can be open, closed to movement, blocking and providing cover to enemies behind or adjacent to it, or have damage or debuff hazards. There are also doors and chests that can be opened, though some will require either a Rogue, Barbarian or Gunner to open (the later two with a 50% chance of destroying the contents inside!) Character and enemy monsters icons are on a pillar at the edge, with the top icon taking the next action. Abilities have a time sink cost, so if you make a simple attack, it bumps you down the pillar a short way. If you make a powerful attack, it pushes you all the way to the bottom. In general, bosses have very slow attacks, while minions attack and die frequently. It's generally more worthwhile to eliminate fast acting minions before taking on stronger bosses.

The companions pop up during the story and you can try to romance all of them or none of them. You will have to support some over others, and your support shapes the story. A companion burned enough will leave and return as a penultimate boss towards the end. While sex will be possible, and will affect the ending, trying to bang all 8 will be... ugly. However, a 3 way is possible with some of the companions, and there is a hidden Yaoi encounter with an NPC if you don't pursue romance with any of the 8.

Bree is the first of two companions. She's a mature young woman with a constant worried or concerned look on her face. Her hair is brunette and her eyes are brown. Her figure has C cups. Hairstyle is generally worn long, though as a knight it is braided tightly. Bree is always very concerned about the hero, which she worries about constantly. She loves him, though getting her to admit it is very difficult. Even the first time they have sex, she comments that she did it only because she thinks it was best for him. She wants the prince to become king, and gets very annoyed whenever he shirks that responsibility, though getting her to leave requires a betrayal. Very matter of fact, she knows that as a commoner she'd have a meager life, and is grateful to the hero and the king for this chance at a better life. Ironically, getting her to agree to marry you at the end is very difficult, as she brings up this very reason.

Vivina is the second of the two starting companions. She's an elf, appearing in around 16, but is actually almost a century old. Like most elves, Vivina has pointed ears and a more heart shaped face, with brilliant purple eyes and lavender hair that is chopped short. Her figure is a B cup, unlike 'human cows'. Vivina is an exile, a victim of the ruthless games elven matriarchs play against each other an their people. As such, she has a severe dislike of her own people and the way they manipulate the shorter lived races with their magic. With a little bit of prompting by the hero, she can be convinced to embrace her arcanic talent. However, she'd much rather drink and kick butt. She thinks the hero should be allowed to make mistakes, so he can learn how hard the world can be and not make more. In this she's in opposition to Bree, but she also secretly has a crush on the character, and hides it under her boisterous, party nature. Sex with her is easy once, but getting a relationship is much harder, as she feels she is undeserving of the hero's affection.

Dulcina is a dwarven woman and head of an engineering team working to make steam power a reality in the kingdom. Like all dwarves, she short and built wide, with dark green hair in a severe braid and matching eyes. Her face is round, with a wider nose, and a face that's almost always haughty. Her build is muscled, her skin fair, with DD cups. Dulcina wants to revolutionize the world, and sees machines as the way to do it. No more starving farmers or struggling miners... with machines the work of a hundred can be done by ten, and the price of expensive goods drop to a tenth of their current cost. Dulcina is not easily romanced. For one, she is not attracted to the hero at the outset. Only by supporting her and her progressive agenda can she be pursued. She also isn't swayed by flattery or gifts, and becomes very resentful at the latter. While she has an appreciation for money, she hates the stereotype that it's all Dwarves care about. She is one of the hardest characters to pursue all the way to marriage, which she prefers to refer to as a 'partnership'.

Fali is a smallfolk, one of the tiny female people with faintly pointed ears, wide almond shaped eyes, a slight overbite, and a tan complexion. Her hair is red and curly, in ringlets around her shoulders and a smattering of freckles on her cheeks. She has an A cup figure, an abberation for her kind, and something she's very embarrassed about. Fali is a farmer, like most of her kind, living along the river and trying to live a simple life. Unfortunately the dwarven engineering projects threaten her village and rather than take up arms, she's decided to negotiate with the dwarves and hero. Fali is very shy, and thinks her place is working the fields, but she's also very compassionate about helping others live a better life. She is very embarrassed by praise, but appreciates it, and doesn't mind simple handmade gifts. Expensive things she'll just give to a beggar or hungry family. Her romance path and marriage are pretty straight forward, unless complicated by...

T'Talony, the hunterkin. Like all hunterkin, she appears mostly human, with furry orange ears and amber eyes. She has claws, little fangs, and a tiger striped tail. Her body has a few patches of fur on her shoulders, forearms, outer thighs, and calves. Her hair is orange with black highlights, and her build is muscular, light tan, with B cups. Her eyes are a burnished gold. T'talony, like most hunterkin, has very little appreciation for the civilized world. She likes the wilderness and shuns modern conveniences... at first. With the Hero's guidance, she can come to appreciate some amenities of society, like toilets, soft beds, good food, and art. She even has some skill in this latter part that she's deeply embarrassed by. Unfortunately, this 'domestication' leads to strife with the rest of her pride, who see her as weak and undeserving. Depending on the treatment by the hero, her pride might be crushed utterly, she may abandon her old ways, or she might become fiercely dependent upon them. Sex with her is relatively easy as first, but the final teirs are much more difficult to manage. She endures some hero worship from Fali.

Ophelia the Darkling appears as a teenage girl with dusky gray skin and blue white hair falling down to her back, and a pair of dark blue bat wings coming off her shoulders and a barbed tail. She can turn into a bat at night, and does so when annoyed. Her build is very svelte with A cups. Her eyes are a pale gray, almost blending into the whites of her eyes. Ophelia is a mystic, investigating the murder of the crown prince for her own amusement... or so it seems. In fact, she was the Crown Prince's lover. She is a pillar of cool ice containing a burning inferno of pain and anger over his death, which she first blames on the Hero. She attempts to seduce the hero early on in order to kill him, but when he rejects her advances and it becomes clear the hero is innocent, some of her facade slips. She admits its rare that men fall in love with her kind, who normally just use the 'succubus' for a night and then discard them. Sex with Ophelia is easy, and she is into some kinky things, but if sexed, the romance option will be impossible. To romance her, sex must be denied until the very end. She enjoys expensive gifts, but the thirst for vengeance drives her. If denied that, she may become quite discontented.

Mina is a Harpy. Unlike her monstrous, crone-like cousins, Harpies resemble winged human women. Mina has white wings and hair, fair skin, a moderately athletic body, and C cups. Her eyes are pale silver. Mina is a princess of her people; one selected to wed the hero. She is also gay, and is quite conflicted by the whole arrangement. She knows the union will benefit her people's eyries and open up trade, but she is flatly repulsed by the character's body. Making her 'try it' and forcing a second time leads to a bad end. However, if the hero is sympathetic and talks with her, she suggests a magical potion that will turn the hero female until dawn. If this route is pursued, a defect in the potion will allow a futanari scene in which she will be awkward, but accepting. If the hero keeps taking the potion, at the end it will be permanent. It is also possible to have a lesbian threeway with Bree, as she's okay with it if its you... though she will be very red the whole way through. Ultimately, she must decide, like the hero, if her people are worth sacrificing her own happiness for.

Gretta is a dragon. Dragons have two stages in their development: a humanoid form and an immense dragon form they assume. They must amass considerable wealth in order to transform into the larger form, and Gretta is on her way to achieving said horde. Fully transformed dragons can shift between their humanoid and their immense forms at will. She the largest of all the companions, a full head taller than the hero, with dusky gray skin, two curling rams horns, jet black hair in spikes, and a lizard like tail. She has plates of scales on her shoulders, back, thighs, forearms, and calves and claws on her hands and feet. Her eyes are a deep red. Gretta is working as a mercenary, putting her strength and magical might to good use thrashing people who need it. Hired to kill the hero, she provides information when spared, and with the offer of money, joins the hero. Sex with Gretta can be purchased, however it will kill the romance route. In order to make Gretta romanced, the hero will have to get her to consider a life beyond amassing and hording wealth. Most dragons spend their entire lives guarding their riches, ultimately in futility, as another dragon or band of adventurers will try and take their treasures. Gretta can be convinced that exploration or service to people can be just as rewarding as naked greed.

Anyway, just a thought that was rattling around in my head with the rest of the junk in there.

#Somber's being stupid again.

Nice tag.

I wonder if anyone else will use it.

Just "a" thought? You should probably get that rattling checked.

Great ideas, though. But if most of the women live in separate communities and cultures, what happens when they have male children (which I assume they do)?

Hm...send it off to the makers of Fable and let them play around with it

3317195 Usually they make their way to one of the human kingdoms. The birth rate is stacked slightly against males, but given any of the eight can produce them, it more than makes up for it. A few stay in the communities of their birth mothers, but its difficult. With elves, they're dead of old age before their siblings are adolescents. Darklings don't even have communities, being fairly mobile and nomadic. Harpies rarely have stairs and ladders. All in all, most of the other seven races have ties with a community to send their male offspring to.

3317189 It should be used for everything I post.

Dude... I'd play that.

One day, Knighty, fatigued by his great power and authority, sought diversion by calling upon all the great philosophers and wise men of FIMFiction, to ask them to give him a tag which would be true for any blog post, in good times or bad, pony related or not. This assemblage of the great and the good conferred for weeks, unable to meet his challenge. Then one day, as Knighty was checking in on their progress, a courtier uninvolved with the whole matter was looking through his feed and saw a new post from Somber, and upon reading it exclaimed "Somber's being stupid again!" And upon hearing it, Knighty knew he had the tag which he has sought, and there was much rejoicing.

I like it

Interesting. Given that creation, though, I'm curious about what happened between the beginning and the present that led to the world be so peaceful. And what the use of the male sex was before the creation of another sex.

Now you just need a game developer xD How about the guys who created Katawa Shoujo?

Sounds like a fun game to me. I'd play.
