So there's something I want to get off of my mind. I'm aware about the speculation about Cadence and Shining Armor having a child later in the season. Many people like the idea and many are against it due to some saying that it's either pointless, something that would take away from the story due to some thinking that the baby would be an alicorn.
Some of you might have read one of my stories, "The New Royal Family" where I the two have a male Unicorn as a child. Ignoring the irony in this, I would like it if there child was a male Unicorn, but i would also settle with it being female or a peguseus or earth pony. And as controversial as this would be, I also would't mind if the child was an alicorn. Most people don't like that idea due to them thinking "Oh great, another alicorn" and it would take away from the lore or would be distracting to the story. The reason I wouldn't mind this is because we've never had an instance of an alicorn being born (Cadence was born a peguseus) and I think it would add more to the history of them, especially since we don't really know who's Celestia's or Luna's parents are. And I would also like it to be male since we've never had a male alicorn before (no, Princess Big Mac don't count).
As regarding the baby thing as a whole, I do think that them having a baby would take away from their roles as characters. Because even though Mr. and Mrs. Cake have children, they're just secondary characters and can just be in the background taking care of the children while plot happens. While Cadence and Shining are still important characters to the show, so adding a child could mean that they would have less opportunities to contribute to the story like going on some huge adventure with Twilight while they leave the child at home. And god help them if somepony like Sombra comes back to attack the empire. They could justify it by having maids or butlers take care of the child since they're royalty, but still. It would still be a nice change of pace for the the show and the royal couple, and turning them into parents is a nice way to add more character to them. Just as long as it isn't as bad as Poof from Fairy Oddparents.
But this is just my opinion, what do you guys think? I would love to hear about it.
