Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

We've had a string of good episodes the last few weeks. Whether it be shapeshifting seaponies, an actual Celestia episode, or discovering Starlight's dark phase, we've had lots of fun and plenty of laughs.

Today's episode is about Applejack and Rainbow Dash competing.

    The good times are over.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Horse Play

So hey, it's a new episode. Surely nothing to be excited about. Just another standard episode of a cartoon pony show.

    Only it's a CELESTIA EPISODE!

Prepare for extra spicy biased scoring as we look at Best Princess' newest episode, “Horse Play!”

Rarity is officially a terrible pony · 12:14pm Aug 5th, 2015

Don't believe me? Here's a declaration of her terribleness from the horse herself:

...You know, I could be dedicating this time to bettering myself, or to actually writing Waning Moon. Instead, I waste it on stupid crap like this. Oh well, that's what I get for rushing into a story before fully committing myself to it, forgetting where I was even going with it, and ultimately failing to accomplish jack.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must flee. If I have learned one thing, it's that Rarity fans are just as insane and vengeful as Spike fans, and they will want for blood when anything comes that shines a poor light on their most fabulous mare. Like when "Rarity gave ponies sunburn" became "Rarity rained fireballs of death onto Ponyville and M.A. Larson deserves to die for it." Seriously, people...

You can have my flame shield if you wish, but I'm not sure if it'll protect you from beating yourself up. Please don't.

I'd really like to know where you encounter all these rabid fans, because I never have. Not even on 4chan.

Depends on which type of rabid fan you're looking for. In terms of Rarity, I've run into plenty on other sites, although they're usually placated when she gets an episode. (Unlike Spike fans, who will rage over "mistreatment" regardless of what the episode actually does with him.) The incident I referred to (the "fiery death" one) was from my Ponychan days, where the hatred for MMC was so high that people began inventing an episode that became increasingly terrible with each post about it, especially one of the loudest and most annoying Rarity fans I have ever seen. Every post was about how the staff hates Rarity because she didn't get an episode in Season Three, and that MMC was an orchestrated attempt to forever ruin her reputation by making her out to destroy Ponyville because she's evil and bad.

I don't know if they're still on Ponychan. I haven't been on there in quite a while. Last I heard, the place had essentially collapsed into a quagmire of hatred and disgust for everything post-S2. Sad, really.

Last time I was in Ponychan was just a few weeks ago, mostly to look around. It was kinda' empty.

*looks over shoulder at other fandoms* Over reaction in fandoms not anything new but I see your point.

Goodsir, you have fired the first shots. And while we may not have started this war, by jove we are going to finish it!

Vive la Best Pony! Vive la Rarity!

...But yeesh, i never knew Rraity fans could get that over something. I figured that kind of... well, insane vengefullness was solely the stomping ground of Spike fans. :rainbowderp: Good luck surviving the Raripocalypse?

"Yes, well, we might not have any fuel or food or water, but the fashion is divine!"

I'm not surprised, honestly.

I know one of the former Ponychan members tried to make the jump to Round Stable. It lasted all of five minutes before they got banned and the Pony Goons could go right back to making dozens of threads about how shit Fallout Equestria is.

I must flee. If I have learned one thing, it's that Rarity fans are just as insane and vengeful as Spike fans, and they will want for blood when anything comes that shines a poor light on their most fabulous mare.

That kind of "challenge" makes me feel almost obliged to overreact and crucify you for besmirching the good name of my fair lady... unfortunately I lack sufficient context for this particular incident to even pretend to be fanatical extremist. :derpytongue2:

There will be blood! Blood, I tell you! (Even though It clashes something fierce with those drapes, darling. Perhaps if we were to do something in a nice velour with some gold accents. ).

I don't see why people are upset with your opinion. I mean, it came straight from the horse's mouth.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must flee. If I have learned one thing, it's that Rarity fans are just as insane and vengeful as Spike fans, and they will want for blood when anything comes that shines a poor light on their most fabulous mare.

I saw this back all the way at the Season 1 finale. Hardly surprising to me. *shrug* As a Rarity fan myself, I don't mind the occasional bad light being cast on her, because, here's the thing, it helps her be a more well-rounded character.

She's my top Mane Six pony because of this. Because while a lot of her personality is defined by being a fashionista, we see both the goods and bads of that with her mindset and how she's grown from interaction and friendship with an athlete, a farmer ("AH LOVE BEING COVERED IN MUD!"), a former complete bookworm, a baker/party planner, and... Fluttershy.
