I'm Happy Everyone Hates Discord · 3:03am Aug 3rd, 2015
It really gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I make the Antagonist of the story absolutely hated. Even though I did it the easiest way possible. Just make the asshole do something so undeniably horrible *cough*genocide*cough* and have him get away scott free. But why did he do *cough*genocide*cough* in the first place....? That's my question. And I'm surprised none of you has asked that either.
I was just guessing that he was angry at them because the humans defied him in some way.
I thought he did it because WHY THE FUCK NOT

That's what I thought. I guess we'll find out.
also, third parties everywhere.
Yay clarification!
Just as long as discords 'reason' isn't the usual tired misanthropic BS we've heard a thousand times before. It's bad enough when we hear it from the ponies, but hearing it from discord would just be irony blindness.
3290335 I never said I was going to clarify, at least not in this blog post. Maybe in the story, I just wanted to hear what you people had to say on the matter.
3290339
We are supposed to hate him. That's the clarification. I was worried that it was going down the hole of an author claiming that their characters have the moral high ground, and the readers calling bullshit.
3290345
Well isn't that the whole point of the antagonist, to have everyone dislike him? Like hell you guys act like you want his head on a pike!
3290347 The clarification is that he is the antagonist. Not someone we are supposed to be rooting for / one the author believes has the moral high ground.
Pfff Discord don't need no reasons.
3290347 Yes please.
Well, for some people genocide is apparently okay as long as the designated hero commits it. *cough*Bible*cough* I for one hate anyone who culls and entire, or at least most, of a species. And so I hate Discord in this story and Celestia in TCB on principle.
3290347
Be glad that your antagonist actually did something to deserve being called the antagonist. Some lesser stories expect you to love the protagonist, and hate the antagonist just because they are the antagonist and protagonist. Designated Hero
Designated Villain
*cough*Bible*cough*
Well I'm certainly beginning to wonder why he did it in this story.
He certainly could have done a better job if the complete extinction of the human race was his goal and why make a plague that makes people mad? In fact, why a plague at all?
Certain things are adding up. But those things are making more questions pop up.
3290347 could he have been jealous of humanity?
3290513 He most likely created the plague on accident, but didn't care enough to stop it. Or it was a side effect of his chaos magic, just like none-chaos magic seems to effect humans negatively, and the volatile and unpredictable nature of the magic made people go insane? Maybe in his infancy he found humans turning on each other hilarious, and even helped it along a few times.
3290529 I'm actually wondering if humanity might have done something to him or possibly there might have been some other factor involved in why they might have been going crazy besides Discord.
It certainly sounds like their are some questionable people on the counsel.
3290589 Or possibly the origin of the plague and the designer of it are two separate things. He definite seemed a bit upset about a few things he talked about with Celestia.
3290347 Actually, no. The point of the Antagonist is to have a person/group/whatever that's against the Protagonist, the main character(s). As such, you can have Protagonists that are evil and Antagonists that are good. And that means you can like the Antagonist more than the Protagonist. Be that as it may, I still completely dislike Discord in this story.

Why would we question it? Given Discord has had almost no personal appearances in the story, and not much of what happened way back before humanty's exodus has been elaborated upon aside from implying Discord ran rampant and mind-zapped people en masse. I honestly don't get why you're so surprised of the reaction, there is nothing in the story so far that even suggests Discord has a reasonable motive for causing the destruction he did without being the author. At this point there really doesn't seem to be any believable way to change the current portrayals of the characters without making it feel like author fait, aside from (another) total re-write.
3292052 Who said I want you all to like him, the title says I'm happy you hate him. I want you guys to hate him! Will I give reason though? Oh of course, and personally what I have written in my documents it's sorta kinda reasonable, but in the end the humans still didn't deserve it.
Personally, I found Discord pretty believable. Considering his comments and the way he usually fucks around, I think at the very least he was in a sort of 'genie in a lamp' relation ship, if not literally that
3290347 Well actually, that isn't the point of an antagonist. An antagonist can also be a very symphatic character as long as he is a threat to the protagonist. Besides that are antagonists and villains in generel often the most interesting characters and especially in TV-shows also often fan favorite characters.
