For those of you who follow that one story of mine that got inexplicably popular, '...And It's Freaking Cold Up Here', we've got another hurdle to deal with besides my slow updates: my computer. I suspect it may be dying on me. At any rate it won't start Windows no matter what I do, which is never a good sign.
Because of this, I may be without consistent Internet access for a while. Don't worry, the story is still on--it just may take longer than I anticipated. We'll see how long it takes to fix the old computer or get a new one. In the meantime, I'm still out here and still working on Jay's smoky adventures.

had the same issue about two weeks ago, ended up replacing the mobo, CPU, RAM, and hard drive with upgrades.
Have you tried the time honored classic of hitting it with something?
Welp, good luck on that. Having to deal with computer issues of my own over here.
Hmmm. Does it give you a message when you try and start it up? LIke NTSCU missing or something similar?
3291906 Nope, it just kept going back to the bootup screen.
My brother is far better with computers than I am, so I went to him for help. He says one of my hard drives is dying, so he's going to salvage the data, put it on a new drive, and update the software. Right now, it sounds like I'll have my computer back in working order within several days. That's a relief.
3302883 True. Just recover some of the data using a disk reader (there are different kinds), place it on an external hard drive, replace the defective drive, then you're good. If the one with the OS is broken, you can try to create an image of the first drive and install it on a new hard drive, but I'm not certain that works with OS programs.

3303876 I think that's exactly what my brother did, actually...as well as clean out the machine and install a newer version of Windows. It'll take some getting used to, but it's finally done. My data is safe and I'm back on the Internetz!
