The Promise to Snowdrop... · 3:51pm Jul 17th, 2015
A new story...
This one was finished last night. An entry into the Equestria Daily Writer Training Ground, once they open the submissions up...
The prompt...straight from EQD.
After her defeat as Nightmare Moon, write about Luna's internal struggles that lead to her decision to create the Tantibus and/or its actual creation.
Woah.
My divorce was finalized that Monday. I was already in Luna's frame of reference when I read the prompt, so my emotional state was parallel to hers. How did she feel?
We saw some of it in S5 Ep. 13.
Tortured. Pained. Regretful. A large helping of self-loathing. Responsible. Protective. (Both of those last ones when she refused help and tried to shoulder it alone)
Hurting...
Writers sometimes write for catharsis, to get emotions out, to find balance in themselves by releasing the junk they have inside. I did it before, with "On Writing...", the beginning of the end of my life with another. Now, the final end arrived with this one.
I didn't really write this story. I just managed the flow of pain. Writing to me means hard work, conceiving a concept, fleshing it out, clarifying the details. "Derpy Meets The Doctor" was written. "The Promise to Snowdrop" was catharsis.
But...
At the end.
After it's all out, hope steals in. A better time is coming.
Look.
See? The sun does return. You can smile again.
You see some people with new eyes. And you wonder about the start of new relationships.
Thank You, Luna. Your eventual triumph set the standard for me.
