So, this was an interesting one. Turns out Twilight was a horrible friend before the start of the show. I loved this one, so lets get started.

After an off handed remark from Spike about how bad a friend Twilight use to be in Canterlot, Twilight is horrified by the idea that she possibly ruined old friendship before she knew how to cherish them. A fear made even greater by the fact that she can't remember her old friends' names. So, its off to Canterlot to fix the mistake she made. Once arriving, Twilight finds that most of her old friends didn't really mind, having long since become use to her distant personality. They prove more than happy to reconnect with her and laugh at how silly she was being. However, not all of her old friends are so happy to see her, and Twilight must face a tragically reality of what her indifference caused as well as a dark mirror of what could have been...

This was a good one. Any chance to explore a character is something I love and this was a great chance. In truth I doubt most of us ever gave Twilight's old friendships in Canterlot a second thought. And yet, here we are with a fantastic episode based on that small scene at the beginning of the show when Twilight turned down going to a party in favor of studying about Nightmare Moon. Its little touches like this that make me love the show writers, and shows just how far they've come since the first season.

We get to see the consequences of Twilight's near rejection of her friendships in the past and how they negatively effected another pony's life. And while I feel the issue was a bit rushed (damn the 20 minute limit) I think they did a great job of showing how one's carelessness and damage another. A great message to kids and one adults could stand to be reminded of from time to time.

Pinkie Pie is the only other Mane Six pony to show up in this episode and she brings with her a few good, if short, laughs. Apparently she can fly on her own...Its Pinkie Pie don't question it. And, of course, we get to see a new spell Twilight has. She can magically put herself into a book. I'm surprised I didn't see that coming honestly.

So how about you guys? What do you think of this episode?

I rather liked it, but it had it's faults. My major gripe being that throughout the episode, Twilight kept talking like her friends were miserable simply because she wasn't there anymore. Now, MAYBE this could be seen as naiveté on Twilight's part, but to me, it felt kind of arrogant.. Although, that does give something to explore in future episodes PERHAPS...But yeah, one complaint and it was one that could be interpreted in a lot of ways, so yeah I liked this one.

3210379 I think they were trying to go for the idea that Twilight was letting her fear cloud her common sense she believed that by leaving her friends she was actually hurting them. But I do see what you mean. And while I doubt they could ever do this without going way out of character on Twilight, it is an interesting idea to think her Princess status may be starting to make her a little arrogant. Like they could start changing Twilight to slowly embody those fears everyone had when she became a Princess and devote an episode to her friends bringing her back down to earth.

That aside, this episode gave me something to think about. Tree Hugger, Moon Dancer, the Ponies in Starlight Glimmer's town, Gilda, and even the back ground ponies. With these characters being set in more important roles as the season goes on, I feel like they're being set up for something. My guess is that whatever, the writers have planed for the finale, these side characters are going to play some kind of role. It could be that The Mane Six won't have to face the threat alone this time.
