What made me groan today. · 10:01pm Jul 1st, 2015
I don't know how many of you guys here watch Screwattack's Death Battle on youtube but I try to regularly. The most recent battle was between Darth Vader and Dr. Doom (go find out who won yourselves, I'm not ruining it). I watched it today and that leads me to what made me groan. The next Death Battle is between Supersayian God Goku and New 52 Superman. Mind you that they already did this battle with Supersayian 4 Goku and Superman. The result was, Superman won and Goku lost.
Now I thought they did good research and covered the bases well, but as with most events like this, the Goku fandom went up in arms. It just became an endless back and forth of "Oh, Goku could've done this", or "Oh Superman couldn't do that." On and on until it finally died down and people forgot about it.
But of course, with two new movies since then giving Goku two new levels of power, the fanboys demanded a rematch, and ScrewAttack is going to give them one...
The reason I groan is simple. The last match showed us that no matter who won, one of the fandoms was going to complain. And now he result of this match will, again, have one side or the other complaining about the outcome no matter who wins. Thus, I groan.
Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest. So, what made you guys groan recently?
The Equestria Girls Christmas comic. Haven't read it but I know what the plot is and ohhhh boy did it make me groan. And DB, welcome to the internet, where everyone has an opinion to complain about.

Basically retread of Ponyville Confidental. Except the CMC are spreading rumors on purpose to ruin Sunset's rep and they get off scot free with an apology from Sunset for the HEINOUS crime of 'being friends with Rarity, Rainbow, and Applejack'

Yes, even better. It takes place AFTER Rainbow Rocks, and even the Humane 5 abandon Sunset thinking she's spreading the rumors. Seriously editors and writers of that comic, to quote a certain AVGN...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?
3198152 Look, I've really tried to make peace with the fact that there are human versions of the Mane Six...IN HIGHSCHOOL, but its dumb things like this that keep reminding my why I didn't want that in the first place. You remove Princess Twilight and the Equestria Girls universe had nothing to offer us that the ponies can't do better. Its just so aggravating.

3198182 No, I like Sunset as well...At least during Rainbow Rocks I do. I problem is that she doesn't have any magic in the human world. None of them do. In fact magic doesn't exist there unless it comes from Equestria. As such, there are no grand adventures, no evil overlords to stop, no demons to vanquish. You can't even do the magic gone wrong and hijinks ensue. There is only highschool drama, the most bland, and soulless story engine in history.
You compare that to the cool things that happen in Equestria, even just during a slice of life episode, and the human world is just boring.

I suppose that does make sense. I remember even Those Lacking Spines did a rather well done take that at the Highschool AU genre itself...But I think it's all about character, and these are the characters we enjoyed so much in Equestria. It would take a LOT of clever writing. But hey, if a couple of writers can make a show about magical pastel ponies interesting to boys, then why can't some other writers do the same with a high school setting?
