Job Hunt · 7:30am Jun 27th, 2015

Back to looking for a job. The last one's contract didn't get renewed, supposedly due to budget cuts. Really I didn't feel that I knew what I was doing, and the work was unsatisfying and far from the software development I'd been wanting to do, but it was at least a dignified exit on good terms. Very quiet, actually; the only peep I got about it before the morning of my exit was a phone call from my nominal employer at a HR company, not the company I physically worked at.

I'm finding again that computer science jobs tend to demand years of experience with a lot of obscure software. I really don't want to be stuck forever in some junior know-nothing role or the unpleasant all-testing-and-support roles I've had lately, so my career is getting frustrating again. Florida's a good location (I have low costs here), I'd be interested in Texas, I would consider Canada if they'd let me in, and I could possibly tolerate California if I got an offer from the likes of Google.

Ugh. Had the same issue two years ago, and it grates on you. Yeah, tech work isn't what it used to be, when you could walk onto a job and the higher-ups didn't know what you did, so you kept it mysterious and they gave you more money. Good luck, I hope something comes up soon.

Don't I know that feeling. With how specialized some software is, you'd almost expect certain workshops promoting the damn things with how much experience is requested. They don't want generic CS workers, they want to poach people that fit exactly their needs.

Thanks. You've reminded me of the Silicon Valley Job Title Generator. Where are those Equestria Online sysadmin jobs?
