An answer to your pondering: Does your fic have a human in it?
Then don't bother trying to submit it to Equestria Daily. At least as of a couple years ago, that was one of their larger biases. It's mildly possible that it's changed by now, but I wouldn't hold up too much hope.
In my (completely non-expert or experienced, mind you) opinion, EQD is really not worth it. It can be a sizable boost to publicity, but you could also just chat with other authors, groups, etc. and perhaps meet people a bit less set in their ways doing so. Skipped carefully beyond the third and fourth paragraphs, as I haven't yet read Twilight the Terrible. I will damn it but I'm kind of an impulsive reader. There's so many great little fics on this site that I keep going "ooh shiny" and opening a new tab to read it.
