So I just thought I'd post a list of the Mane 6, and others from best to worst. Any hate encouraged. 
Mane 6
1|Fluttershy (She is a cute, kind, gentle pony, and is very mature.) 
2|Twilight Sparkle (Her professionalism and extreme knowledge make her a greatly desirable pony.) 
3|Rarity (She's a fabulous pony that is generous, and very kind. She is also a awesome drama queen.) 
4|Rainbow Dash (Rainbows. Also, athletic, loyal, and has the ability to make a sonic rainboom.) 
5|Pinky Pie (Pinky Pie is very incoherent and annoying, but she does provide for some brilliant comedy.) 
6|Applejack (There is no depth to her character. Honesty is the simplest of values. AJ is practically a supporting character.) 
Top 5 Background Characters
1|Princess Luna (HUZZAH! THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED! Luna has way more depth to her than Celestia. As of now....[Please bring us Celestia backstory!])
2|Derpy (She's just such a derp! And a nice pony.)
3|Lyra (HANDS and HUMANS and everything)
4|Bon Bon (She's always handy when we need some Lyra shipping)
5|Vinyl (She is a dank pon-3 m8s)

6. Why is she in 6th for tending to the trees in the background someone has to. And besides she is stubborn as a mule.

My mane 6 list is pretty much opposite. Rarity, though? Oh we need to have a talk.
You may or may not be aware of the controversy surrounding 'Life is a runway', if not, look it up. People may often jump to conclusions about many things, and that was one of those cases.
Rarity is manipulative-I'll give you that. I have told others that, even. But notice, she is never unfair. She doesn't hurt or mistreat others. Rarity is a unique character that actually represents a large portion of the population, where their appearance is a big factor. She is not a bad pony, she is just...Different.
And generous. Don't forget that.
Spike's crush on Rarity is not something that Rarity hurts spike with. She neither lets him in (probably because of species and age), nor denies the relationship.
Am I white knighting Rarity? Wow, I never thought I'd be spike.
You know, Rarity used to be my favorite.
I notice that everyone has their own grounds for rating all the ponies. You seem to rate them on how good their nature is.
When I first started watching the show, I hated Pinky Pie. Oh, how she made me rage. I hated her SO MUCH. She was this out of control party pony with no coherence to anything and constantly did pointless things.
I still aren't a big fan of her, but I've come to appreciate her comedic value. Last episode, was the pinky pie I've wanted to see all along.

She has been getting more generous with seasons (season 1 generosity is a bit greedy
The second Rarity knew about Spike's crush and chose to allow him to help her out in her boutique rather then straight out shot him down end his hopes and allow him to find happiness with someone else she was leading him on. ( She definitely knows by the time of the dragon greed episode).
To be hones I probably wouldn't like Pinkie as much if it wasn't for this and the fact that she is the only pony who could read the posts

As for your thoughts on A.J. I am sure that you mean she has almost no conflict to explore but she is a Mavric she doesn't seek help and right out refuses to accept it when its offered if she can while always trying to help others.
So yeah its hard to get her in a conflict when she would stand for almost anything that's thrown at her.

3104918 Perhaps one of Rarity's greatest lessons was the one from the diamond dog episode.
"Just because you're a lady, it does not mean you are weak and helpless."
Very nice lesson to learn, but I agree, with power, comes responsibility, and Rarity does have a soft spot for manipulation. Just look at the first 5 minutes of 'Putting your hoof down', where Rarity basically goes full retard. She does, however, in her defense, pay him.
The way I see is, she is a pony with ridiculous highs, and ridiculous downs. You can see the level she stooped to in 'Sonic rainboom', but then her generosity peaks in 'Rarity takes Manehattan'.
Rarity, in the end, is a great character to break the 'women are weak' stereotype, however I would love to see an episode teaching a 'no manipulation' lesson, preferably with RariSpike.
Oh yes, A.J.
She is not a bad character, but like I said before, she may as well not be there. As a person she is great, as a entertaining character with development? No. We have twilight with her obsession with planning things on time, Pinky Pie with her OTT everything, Rarity with her dresses and fashion and celebrities, Rainbow with her obsession with the wonderbolts, and speed, Fluttershy with her, well, shyness, and finally, A.J with... applebucking.
Not much fun to be had there. And also, she was the only one to admit to not learning anything, which is a bad thing, because it means there is no character devolopment.
The only good episode we have had with A.J was the placebo Flim and Flam episode, off the top of my head.
