WTG Week 3 / "The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone" · 9:30pm May 24th, 2015
Okay, I'm more than aware I'm a small fry on FimFiction with basically zero notoriety or fame (E-fame? Internet illustriousness?), but I said I'd write something for the Writer's Training Grounds for Week 3, and I didn't. And it's worth mentioning why, at least. I could blame a bunch of stuff for preventing me -- I had a final, a job interview, my workplace is undergoing structural changes, one night I had a splitting headache -- but those are excuses. Factors? Yes. The cause? No. I just had ideas for how the story could start, but I couldn't bring them to a conclusion. I had at least 5 different beginnings, just no middles, nor ends. So one of these days, when the WTG is finished, I'll come back to it and finish it for myself, just because I can't let it beat me.
I don't have that much to say about the new episode, except that I enjoyed it and laughed and had a good time, that's for sure! Seeing a griffon village for the first time was pretty cool. Hopefully we'll come back when they've cleaned the place up a bit. I was hoping for a ton of droppings everywhere, but that wasn't going to happen and I knew it. Arimaspi (had to look that up) looked badass, but let's be honest, no character there whatsoever. And goodness gracious, those greedy griffons go gaga for gold and G's: Gilda, Greta, Grandpa Gruff, King Grover, and King Gruta!
Finally, Pinkie Pie gets some decent dialogue! In fact, I'd argue her character straight-up stole the show! Dash's struggles against everypony (everygriffon?) wanting their palms (claws?) greased with bits were fun, as well as her impersonation of Twilight. But that's nothing compared to Pinkie baffling over the lack of cake, party stores, or musical numbers in what's basically a third world nation. What I'm a little torn over is Gilda. Her change of heart seems a little rushed, that's all. On the other hoof, Dash and Pinkie only help Gilda by the end, and it's assumed that Griffonstone will eventually prosper as a result. If the kingdom was magically fixed, that wouldn't have made much sense. So in the end it all balances out.
And that's all, folks. I've got one strike with last week's prompt, but I won't let that get me down! With a little luck and hopefully some real inspiration, I'll get something cranked out for this week. See you then!
