    Drabble

Pegasi had a belief. It gave way to tradition, then superstition, and finally to aphorism, but it grain of truth in it persists. That you can tell all you need about someone by the sound of their wings.

Why is there no Changeling story called...

    "All Love Is Unrequited?"

Anyway, it's been a while since I made a blog post for...various life reasons. This is mostly to check in and prove that I am not actually dead. Also that I have written some 25k words of original sci-fi in a month. I am hoping I can keep this up! And give you all a story with jovial insect aliens, sassy AIs, and a mystery.

Any interest? · 12:22am May 24th, 2015

As Cartography winds down here I'm considering opening an Askblog for Rose and Gerard. But I'm pretty ambivalent.
Points for:
- I could keep my hand in so far as pony writing goes without committing to an actual story
- There's a lot of stuff in the setting that can't possibly be touched on any of the stories
- I could actually engage with my readers

Points against:
- It'd be entirely text unless an artist volunteers their time (which not likely) and even then it'd only be occasional comic pages or whatever versus long-form text.
- It couldn't interact with the greater pony askverse. After all it takes place a thousand years prior to the various askblogs that do cross over and in a very specific universe, at that
- I don't have much reader engagement to begin with (and interest in Cartography seems to be pretty low) and without a reasonable number of high quality asks there's not really a point to it.

While it's a neat idea, I don't think you'd probably want to do that. Most ask-type blogs I've seen tend to boil down to porn requests. Maybe doing a Q&A thread or two might be a better way. As to keeping your hand in... what about the odd slice of life short if/when the mood grabs? They wouldn't even have to be written in chronological order... just insert where you think they would fit. That would give you the freedom to showcase things, both before and after CoW, as well as allowing you to write down any scenes that pop into your head without the full-blown story expectation.

Whatever you choose to do, I look forward to it.

I'd second the slice of life shorts compiled on the site (and hey, you could still take in and evaluate reader requests), though failing that I'd back whatever you felt up for. Honestly, I just love your take on the universe, and want to see more of it and its characters, however that takes shape.

Third for the shot-glass stories.

I will third the shorts instead of an ask blog, however,

- It couldn't interact with the greater pony askverse. After all it takes place a thousand years prior to the various askblogs that do cross over and in a very specific universe, at that

I am sure there are plenty of Doctor Hooves blogs that would solve that problem. :trollestia:

I thought about it and concluded that I don't have anything to say about it, but in a way that I feel I should tell you. Probably subjective on any level. I mean, knowledge about the story is much less valuable when formless. And, as shown in the recent episode, some things entertain better when they remain hidden. So I had to say something about it after all. Direct appliance always gets me to do stuff better.

If you're desperate for drawings, I'm on vacation. Mostly. Free time abounds.

Just putting that out there.

I agree with the others. A shorts CoW side stories would be better than a blog. We could still comment, and any art you get can be added in the AN.

Well this seems to be more or less unanimous, which I did not expect! Well, I don't have any slices in mind but I'll definitely think about it, limiting them to chapter-length of course.

3092618 I have enough artist friends that I refuse to specifically ask for art. It's annoying to the artist and fairly demeaning. Plus there's the fact that I can offer precisely nothing in recompense. I'd love fanart of course! But if my writing doesn't inspire it, then it doesn't.

I've seen people do "ask me anything" style blog posts for their story's characters, I think that would work better than an ask blog. Maybe we could ask Luna and Twi how their relationship is going? :trollestia:

Hmm...it sounds like a fun idea at first, but I can't see that existing for very long.

OOH! I think it would be amazing to have a prequel of CoW, telling both side's stories and perspectives in the same story -- each chapter oscillating between Compass Rose and Gerard's sides. I feel there could be lots of potential with all the untold characters and sorta lack of explanation in how everything got to that specific point.

Only if you have a sorta idea or world in your mind that you wanted to build and elaborate on more. If there's no idea, then don't force yourself, stories like that become a drag for the author and later the audiences, your choice tho.

Either way, I'm totally in on what you're thinking and planning, it can only end with awesomesauce on top no matter what when it's you

I may not have told you Daetrin, but you are one of my favorite writers. The triptych trilogy you wrote changed me, and my esteem of you is so great that i will not allow myself to start "Cartography of War" until it is finished, because i would want the next chapter TOO much and it would hurt. I would definitely engage with you once the story is finished and i read the whole thing without sleeping several times, however :)

I'd say Cartography of War is my favorite by you so far!
