Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

A little announcement · 8:34pm May 9th, 2015

I will very likely be no longer reviewing the MLP comics. I will discuss them if I find something interesting or complaint-worthy, but I will not be doing any more scheduled reviews.

If you want a reason, ask the brain trust over at Derpibooru.

Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Probably for the best. The comics have seriously declined in quality.

Well that's a shame.

I have a fondness for the comics; they were my gateway into MLP. I also enjoy your reviews. Still, if its something you don't enjoy anymore, then not wanting to comment on every issue makes sense.

Would it be possible for you to make a master list post linking to your comic reviews, as you did with your season, character and Lunaverse analysis?

Will you still update stories in the future?

If you're not enjoying doing them anymore, then by all means. I personally never felt very invested in the comics in the first place, but it's not my place to tell other people what to like. Hope this leads to you finding something you enjoy doing more In the future.

Yeah, I'm confused. :B

Derpibooru, hm...
:applejackunsure:

In anycase, it seems like the comics just haven't been as good anyway. At least there is the show. Season 5 has been coming along strong so far.

3057594 https://derpibooru.org/

how do i find this person to ask him?....

3057439

I've needed to do this for a long time.

3057581

Yes.

3057586

I actually still look forward to some of the comics, but they have gone through a really rough period.

3057951

It's not just one person, and it's not something that came out of nowhere. It's been building up for a while.

3057586 I've never felt a strong urge to read the comics and that minuscule urge is even smaller now that it has been confirmed that the comics are not canon to the show.

3058039
And thank god for that. I honestly couldn't be happier with just letting them go off their own way, as long it doesn't start negatively impacting the core canon of the show that I actually care about.

...That came off more negative than I meant it to be, I don't have any ill will towards the comics; I just don't really like some of the concepts they introduced.

3057992

but they have gone through a really rough period

Rough being the lightest way to put it.

First it was the shitty stupid writing, then it was the OC put in by that one fat fuck made by that Pony/femanazi that thinks all men need to be chained up in a zoo given what she's said on her tumblr, then the writing just got god awful, and then it turns out the fat bastard wasn't fired, and just holy fuck how is this still a thing?

...I don't know how to find out what's going on at Derpibooru, but it is a shame to learn that you're not reviewing the comics anymore.

3058121 I think you quoted the wrong person. I have no clue wtf you're talking about.

3058081 Oh, I agree wholeheartedly.

3058372
That I did. Failed to catch that.

In case if you're curious, look up the Ted Anderson incident. Basic rundown of it was one of the aritsts, Ted, being the Politically correct moron that he is, put in the OC of some Tublr Feminist broad by the name of Cutosphere. Normally, nobody would give two shits had she not have said colorful things relating to chaining up men in zoos, made parodies of the Mane Six dolls that came with "Men Slayer" uniforms, with toys to kill, can you guess? Men. That Men cannot be raped, and the stereotypical "Everything a male does is rape" couple of bits. Along with other such wonderfully misogynistic and ironically sexist pieces of art and blurbs.

AKA, you shouldn't find a damn femanazi's OC in a children's comic. Its no different if you were the OC Arynne, the Nazi Pony, featured somewhere in the comics.

Well that's kind of sad because I was kind of looking forward to your 2 cents on the final issue of Fiendship.
I personally enjoyed the issue because unlike the last 3 Fiendship issues this one felt tight, it told it's story well and it knew what it was. Yeah I get why people may not care for it due to the ending(if you read it then you know what I mean) but it honestly didn't diminished my enjoyment of the issue. But that's just me though.

3057992 k so how do i find them?....

Although i never read the comics, i did read the reviews, and by the sound if things it sounded like it had been a runaway train fiasco since that one guy put his own OC into the comic (which if i recall, since it was a long time ago) was begining to taint it all with social justice.

Otherwise, i don't think this could realistically go on for too long without pissing people off with the writers saying "fuckoff" to show canon and massive deviations in quality from one writer to another. Plus, we have to admit that its a comic book made for little girls, with dips made for the bizzare adult audience, i'm honestly surprised its lasted this long.

I would ALMOST forgive an Aryanne cameo, because they made her so damn adorable. I do agree wholeheartedly with your views though, and your previous comment was funny as hell.

Older blog, I know...

Being honest, the origin of the Changelings feels... too nonsensical to me, particularly just how... against the odds it is. Starswirl, do you have to be involved in everything? Trying to outdo Sirens in one crappy issue to accidentally unleashing Changelings from a tree?

I really do understand why you quit the comics: I've done so myself too. But at the very least, could you at least give your overall thoughts on the Chrysalis Fiendship Is Magic issue? Some people say that it's should that Katie is still a good writer. Others like myself hate it for a couple of reasons like the stupid backstory for the changelings.

3100028

Thing is, I haven't quit the comics. I bought and enjoyed both of the May issues. I'm not going to critically analyze and review them anymore, though, and I won't buy them if I'm not sold on the premise or page previews. (I would have skipped over the Eldeer entirely if I wasn't committed to reviewing every issue.)

As for the Chrysalis issue...it was okay. The origin was dumb, but that was the only part I had serious contention with. The rest of the issue was enjoyable, if rather basic, and did a good job showing how dangerous the Changelings could be with the right strategy. I didn't even mind Twilight getting tricked, and I appreciated the fact that the Changelings are being kept as being totally evil, given the series' penchant for trying to redeem every villain and nuisance the group runs into.

3101364 Fair enough. My only problem with the changelings being evil is that the whole "This entire species is completely evil!" thing is really cheap and kills a lot of potentially interesting stories that could be told. I don't mind Chrysalis and her army all being bad, but declaring the entire species as evil is just dumb.
