Anyone have any opinions on the season 3 songs that have been shown so far?
Well, I do a little bit. I haven't liked them a whole lot. Now, I know people say I just have nostalgia goggles for season 1 and that season 2 was just as good and that everything in season 3 will be just as good. I'm not arguing that one is better than the other. I'm just saying that I enjoyed some more than others, and I have very legitimate reasons that have nothing to do with nostalgia.
First, and what I saw most obviously in these new songs that have been released, is that they feel sort of forced. Honestly. I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they're there, I enjoy them too, I just think they were only put in because they know we love the songs. They don't feel all that inspired. They're still good. They're still catchy. I still like them. I just am a little bothered by how hard they're trying to please us.
Second, the songs seem to be less festive. I personally really enjoy the huge broadway musical numbers in the show, like Winter Wrap Up, At The Gala, The Flim Flam Brother's song, and Smile Smile Smile. Those are some of my favorite songs in the show. They have a lot of ponies singing and it's all very happy and bright. I also like the single pony songs where there's one star, don't get me wrong. I love Art of the Dress, BBBFF, and This Day Aria as much as the next brony. However, the reason I prefer the larger, festive numbers is because 1. they're more friendshippy and heartwarming and 2. it's easier and more enjoyable to sing along. I know we all do it, but you have to admit it's a lot harder to sing along to This Day Aria or Twilight's new "I Wasn't Prepared For This" thing. With only that one character singing, it's kind of awkward. I mean, I don't sound like them. I feel out of place. It's more fun when I sing Winter Wrap Up or chant "Cider!" in the Flim Flam Brother's song.
The individual songs are great, but I feel like the festive one's have a better atmosphere and suit the show better. That friendship feeling is what I love about the show. I enjoy seeing them all sing and have fun together. I enjoy the solo one's too, but definitely prefer the group songs.
Finally, the main reason I prefer season 1 over season 2 is that there are less adventure episodes. I know, I know. The adventure episodes ARE super awesome. I totally agree. But they were awesome because they were girls, ponies at that, going on these adventures. It was so awesome at first, but each adventure episode just made it less special for me. I can always go back and rewatch Lesson Zero (maybe not, holy shit is that overplayed) or The Ticket Master over and over. The friendship episodes make me happy. If you look from season 1 to season 2, you can't deny that there are TONS more adventure episodes in season 2. I honestly prefer the friendship ones. It's as simple as that.
How did this relate to the spoiler songs? Well, I'm scared to see how the songs will be, since they look like they're small-cast numbers. I am, however, excited for the plots in season 3. They look like they're returning more to the friendship episodes and, I hope (not to kill anyone's buzz), less adventure episodes. I still wanna see adventure episodes, but less of them.
That's what I think, but maybe I'm full of shit. What do YOU think, everypony?
I kinda wonder what twilight wasn't prepared for.
236748 we'll find out, twilight...just you wait...
.....
236748 I know, right? Doesn't it just steam you up, having to wait?
Here, Equestria Daily is telling us that we're gonna have to wait forever for season 3. (forever meaning, like, Nov-Dec)
237228 sure does
