why I love it when Best Pony is the worst pony · 11:04pm Apr 29th, 2015
I haven't seen all of s5, but I liked Tanks for the Memories so much that I wanted to properly get my thoughts down about it. It gives some interesting perspective on the characters and the way the show's narrative treats them.
To give some context, I would like everyone to look back and remember this moment.

People said that Rainbow Dash was basically an antagonist in Rainbow Rocks. Those people have a point, honestly--all she did throughout the movie was annoy everyone by acting like the narcissistic pain in the ass that her haters say she is.
You would expect such behavior to be a lead-in to a scene where her personality actually saves the day, or at least a scene where she sees that she was wrong and apologizes.
Nope. Instead she gets a solo song in which she says "haters gonna hate," practically in those exact words. Not only that, but the fact that she refuses to ease off on the guitar solo here almost fucks everything up for everyone.
My friend pointed out something interesting about cases like this where RD is terrible and then gets to karma-ninja out of it: it reflects reality in that sometimes your friends are terrible people but you love them anyway. Dash in this episode goes to insane and irresponsible lengths to get her way, but the narrative doesn't say that she deserves to be punished for it--instead, it shows her learning to do the right thing instead of the wrong thing, and leaves it at that.
If you watch episodes like this and feel like justice wasn't served at the end, you're not watching the same show as me.
Also, I have several friends who say that this episode gave them a new appreciation for Applejack.
So there's that.
You bring up an excellent point: I loved Rainbow Douche in RR, but hated her in Tanks. Now I have to ponder what the difference is (beyond, y'know, two legs vs. four).

Seems like you've got it backwards.
Its supposed to be: "Four legs good..."
