    Another Year older, another year...wiser?

I kinda can't believe that I'm now 25 years old...though that makes sense in a way because I've been thinking I was 25 for the last month or so, so at least I can think I'm the right age now, lol. Anyways, hope y'all are having a good day!

    Happy birthday Equestria Girls!!

Well I didn't realize that this happened today, but apparently, the first MLP: Equestria Girls movie was released on this day over EIGHT years ago! :applejackconfused: It's...honestly quite surreal to think about, seven years ago, I was in my junior year of high school doing not much more than doing my schoolwork, working a part time job, and surfing the web whenever I could. I

What is a good author? · 1:09am Apr 29th, 2015

How can one tell the merits of an author? I'm unaware off any sort of criteria that need be. Is the good author the one who caters to the whims and desires of their fans? Or is the good author the one who pours every ounce of heart they have into their work, hoping to make it grow into something worthwhile? Does the good author know when to put the pencil down when need be in order to leave things as is, or to gather themselves for their next endeavor? Is the good author the one who nails every character perfectly as they should be? Or does the new author find a new take on a well known character and turn their personality and station in life on their head?

I can't say I know what exactly a good author is myself, I ask myself that question more than I realized, wondering how that term can apply to any of us, how it could apply to myself. It's a term that's up for interpretation I guess, to each their own opinion on the matter. Maybe that's the beauty of writing; finding what they believe to be good, and conveying it for others to see and interpret themselves, so that they may form their own ideals and beliefs and opinions, a cycle of creative juices I suppose.

Just a thought.

Everyone has their own opinion on what makes an author good. Could be the writing. Could be the way they interact with their fans.

To me, a good author is someone who strives to become even better. No, not reach the point of being perfect. No one can be truly perfect. To be perfect would be to have zero flaws and no matter what, there will always be flaws.

To me, a good author is someone who never stops trying to please his or her readers. They want to make their readers happy.

A good author also admits their flaws. When they write something that's just downright awful, they admit it and attempt to fix it.

A good author never looses sight of what's important. What is that? Enjoying what they do.

Just my two cents:twilightsmile:

A good writer always strives to be better. They understand that while their work is good, they still have room for improvement. Also, a good writer MUST have confidence. However, in order for a good writer to continue doing what they do, one must be supportive of them.

3027428 Thanks for the tips.

Good authors have this thing called Writer's Will. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I found that thread.

I'm surprised, you barely ever think this deeply :rainbowlaugh:

Anyway, it's a good question. And one that doesn't have a definite answer. There are lots of different to be a "good author," but it really depends on what people consider good. There's no way to please everyone, and very rarely will you ever please yourself through your writing. If it is a joy to the writer to cater to an audience, then that's good enough for them, I think. If they write for the pleasure of writing and getting their ideas out there, then they're good enough for themselves. It's all in your head. If you think you're a good writer, you are. (Unless you have god-awful grammar, then I have to destroy the story in grammar nazi hell)
