Ponies in Middle-Earth? · 12:37am Jul 16th, 2012

Hi everypony,

I'm afraid this blog post isn't about my stories this time. It's merely me wondering out loud: where are the ponies-in-middle-earth stories? I've been looking, but I can't say I found many, or if I did find any they weren't very good, sadly. That has to be a crime against fanfiction or something. Hey, now don't look at me with those "then why don't you write one?" eyes, I have my steampunk ponies to worry about.

I enjoy a good, well-done crossover every now and then, but unfortunately, good crossovers are rare. And that's understandable, crossovers are tricky and hard to pull off. That's what makes them so rewarding to read if you find a good one. Now I'm a Tolkien-fan, as well as a pony fan. Having these two universes come together in a good fic would be fantastic. Now, there has been a good Tolkien x MLP crossover, but it was Middle-earth-person-in-Equestria. I'm interested in the other way around, ponies in Middle-earth!

The first thing people probably think when thinking "Middle-earth and ponies crossover" is a pony (or ponies) on a quest with the Fellowship to destroy the One Ring. That's nice, but Middle-earth offers so much more opportunities than that! I dream of finding a (well-written) crossover that has ponies witnessing and partaking in events that happen in 'the Silmarillion'. Reading about Twilight Sparkle in Middle-earth during the battle of the Sudden Flame? Or Twilight Sparkle joining Earendil in his search for Valinor and during his battle with Ancalagon the Black in the War of Wrath? I'd throw all my bits at the screen if I could read that! But what are the odds? Well, let's be realistic: quite low, if not nonexistent.

However, a brony can dream, can't he? The world would be an even sadder place if we couldn't!

So if you happen to find a Tolkien x MLP crossover, and you think it's any good, please be so kind as to share it. I'd be very interested in reading it!

Until next time,
Keeper of Jericho

PS: Oh, on a slightly more important note: my proofreader of "Wings of Tomorrow ~ Lament of the World" has quit, so I'll have to find a replacement.
