If You Came to Conquer Sequel/Continuation: Inexcusable · 12:01am Apr 23rd, 2015
Back when I first posted If You Came to Conquer, one of the main complaints was the vagueness of the ending. I said that if I ever did write more to the story, I would make it a sequel instead of extra chapters. That way, anyone who did not want more could choose to ignore it more easily.
Normally, I try and make sequels stand on their own; you might see bits of that in the way Inexcusable explains and revisits events from the first story. Since it takes place in a different character's perspective, hopefully this prevents it from being redundant with the first story, while still offering context to those who didn't read it. Ultimately, though, it is not truly a "sequel" since it does not properly stand alone.
Whether it rectifies/addresses the vagueness of the original I'll leave up to the audience. I thought that the reason it is being posted as a "sequel", however, warranted some explanation. Fanfic readers don't generally prefer the "less is more" approach, but hopefully the option/presentation doesn't hamper the story.
I think it's common for a sequel to require a little familiarity with the first one to fully appreciate, though it should have its own merits.
Well, I'm off to read Inexcusable.
