Blues came into the office, the sun shining on the opposite side of the station and a complete lack working ceiling lights meant that most of the room was darker than a cup of black bean coffee.
“What is it Blues? Not the Floater again, is it?” The stallion named Grey tiredly asked from behind his desk.
It was a rather stressful week, the same very similar problem happening one after another. Aparently, parts of the station were detaching and floating off into space without care. The people were calling the phenomenon the Floater. Doesn’t matter to him what they called it, just that they fix it soon. His department started working on the task ever since it was noticed, as did maintenance and about five other departments. Having objects falling off a space station was considered a serious issue.
Blues answered, “Unfortunately, it is. A number of storage units detached off the far hub in the Elipson district. Like before, nothing gave clues as to what happened other than another disassembly error, the airlocks fortunately weren’t compromised, and the witness in the area didn’t notice anything peculiar, other than the fact that a part of their home started floating away.”
Grey wanted to sigh, feeling like this sort of status management would be better left off to one of the other departments who actually specialized in this sort of field. At that moment, Grey’s stomach grumbled loudly.
Blues had a look of surprise on her face as if remembering something. She activated the ATLAS device strapped to her foreleg, opening up a holographic display. A moment later, the device projected a light toward the edge of his desk and an object ionized into existence. It was a rather large paper bag.
Blues rummaged through the bag, pulling out two ration cartons and two orange juice boxes and placing the items between them. “I just realized that you probably hadn’t eaten since you came to the office yesterday so I thought that maybe you’d be hungry.”
There was a plentiful amount of joy on Grey’s face as he stared wide-eyed at the collection of food. His mouth watery, he immediately ripped off the cover of one ration and dug into the large variety of vegetables, fruit, and oats that somehow all fit inside the carton.
“Th- -ank- -you!” He choked out between bites.
“You’re welcome.” Blues smiled gladly, pulling a chair over to his desk and opening her own ration. They each ate silently, enjoying their respective meals and the company they shared.
After eating their last bites and drinking down the food, they now found the short lunch break close.
“Welp,” Blues started, hopping off her seat, “Time for me to go back to work.”
Grey nodded in agreement, “Yeah, I’ll see you later then.”
As an afterthought, he got up and walked to his office door and opened it for Blues.
Blues merely gave a small smile as she walked out, “I’ll notify you of any updates on the Floater. Just don’t overwork yourself, eat something every once in awhile, kay?”
*pokes repeatedly*
