    Collab project!

    Hey everypony,

My friend Geo would like to do a collaborative effort between several authors. If you're down, check out this blog! It only requires 200 words, so it should be easy enough for anyone to join in!

This shit needs to stop · 9:50pm Apr 14th, 2015

Alright, if there is one thing I hate more than anything on this site, it's when someone writes a bad story, and I mean very bad, and someone feels the need to comment and say "IGNORE THE HATERS, I LIKED IT!". Allow me to give you an example, with the names blacked out so I don't get banned for "hating on another user". Neither of them have logged on in ages though, so whatever.

Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Part Five

That was an actual string of comments from like a year ago, and of course the author got all insulted instead of taking my advice. Earlier today, I did it again and wouldn't you know it? The author blocked me! Time for some bullet points for you guys.

1. They are not haters, and even if their comments are rude that doesn't make them incorrect immediately.
2. Referring to all negative reviews towards something you like as "hater comments" is so fucking childish it makes me want to track these idiots down and slap some sense into them.
3. Authors who refuse your help and try to say "well I did my best!" are the bane of all fanfiction. They are what gives it such a bad reputation, and it pisses me off.
4. Blocking someone because they dislike your story and then deleting their comment should result in an automatic ban for being too immature to handle criticism. Seriously, what the fuck are you doing writing on a site filled with like 200,000 people if you can' take one single bit of criticism, you stupid prude?

My first story, which has since been deleted, was an utter piece of shit. I mean legitimately one of the worst pieces of fanfiction ever written. But you know what I didn't do? Ignore the criticism! Sure, I deleted the story, but I thought of it as a learning experience and not once did I say "well at least I tried!". Welcome to the real world, trying doesn't equal success and you're gonna get negative comments. Deal with it.

Seven out.

Oh and if you want a link to the story in question I can PM it to you.

Oh and if you want a link to the story in question I can PM it to you.

if you mean your first story, then hell yes
i mean, it cannot really be worse than my attempts

2984157 Sadly I meant the one I was ripping apart the author of. My first one got deleted when my laptop crashed a few months ago, and it actually makes me kind of sad. I can sum it up for you though AND give you a picture of the OC which I have kept saved for just this moment.

Stupid OC alicorn that is black with a COOL RED AND ORANGE FIRE MANE and a broken horn hooks up with Luna within 2,000 words and Celestia tries to break them up so he fights her and wins I'm gonna go kill myself now

I'm trying to think of his name, and I wanna say it was "Warp Speed" or some gay shit like that.

Preach.

2984176 Ow. OW. My brain hurts just imagining that base description. Yeah, that's sucky. But I can't say I was any better writing cruddy self-insert Kingdom Hearts fanfiction at my starting point as a writer nearly ten years ago.

2984204 Yeah, I honestly deleted it for everyone else's sake, not my own. The one good thing about it is that the criticism it garnered helped me big time and I actually tried with my next story.

2984208 Yeah, no matter how bad it was, those cruddy stories lead you to the good stuff.

Spoken, like a Turian.

It also helps that Equestria seems to be one of the biggest creative playgrounds in history as far as franchised universes are concerned.

2984176 .... That's worse than my first ever attempt. Of course I also had an Alicorn OC that was black....

Okay, fine I'll post a synopsis about what it was going to be: Moonfire (my OC) grows up on an island that's in a pocket demension and befriends a black dragon named Flare and they go into a forbidden cave and faint. When they awaken they are on top of Luna, having fallen on her in the tub through the gate the leads to the island. Moonfire finds out he's Luna's grandson and goes on an epic adventure with her to save the island and bring it back to where it was originally.

*hides in shame.*

2984246 Aside from the black alicorn OC, I actually kinda like that concept. You should think about rewriting it with a good OC, seriously.

2984255 You can have it if you want. Just give me props for giving you the idea and some of the OC's.

To be honest, I've fallen victim to a less severe version of this, but one that is purely related to the like/dislike bar. Sure, everything always had more likes than dislikes, but if the red was very prevalent, like if the ratio was ~2:1 likes/dislikes, then I'd feel like an utter shit and such.

2984255 I agree. Though, I must ask, why are Alicorn OCs so immensely hated? Is it because most fanfictions they're in are crap?

Also in relation to the main topic of this. I have to say:

Bitch! You don't make a cake, you bake one. lol

Seriously though, When I first started writing I used to think that under a thousand words was a good chapter. But as I kept reading other people's works, I noticed that some had chapters that were in the thousands, and even some in the tens of thousands if not close to it. Looking back on my original works, I realise that about ten of my chapters could actually sum up to one, and while that makes me kind of sad and embarrassed at the same time, I feel like it's a learning experience.

Everybody starts somewhere; it's up to them to take the next step.

2985292 I feel that if the creator is good enough, an alicorn OC can be made to work in a story. The main issue is that most stories featuring them are terrible to most people. However, I feel that it's simply a cop out to make a character powerful enough to triumph in any battle. For instance, look at Goku from Dragon Ball Z. Even with his immense power, he finds out that there's always going to be someone stronger to test your mettle against, and you can't win every battle. Most authors who use an alicorn OC don't follow that simple rule, and because of that, alicorn OCs have garnered a bad reputation.

Actually... I'm gonna blog about this in greater detail either later tonight or tomorrow.

Update when.
