The Road Home & S5E3 Castle Sweet Castle · 6:27pm Apr 11th, 2015
This was why I wanted to have the first three chapters of The Road Home out before this episode aired. It was an episode I enjoyed, but at the same time some similar ground was tread. Thankfully, I feel The Road Home is going for a slightly different moral. So the story will continue largely unchanged. (Though, I'll admit, I may include tree-root chandelier of memories. That is a wonderful thing.)
So where does that leave you the readers? Well, Past Sins already fell into AU territory a while ago. Now the two universes are just growing more different. The Road Home is any other take on the same concept that Castle Sweet Castle touches on, thus it makes sense that it's a replacement for S5E3 in the Past Sins timeline. It also switches up the ordering of events as well, since The Road Home happens before the events of the Season 5 opener, Cutiemarkless.
With that said, I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend. The 4th chapter of The Road Home should be out
Thursday, April 16th. (I'm shooting with a bi-weekly posting that may go down to weekly once I have some of the later chapters sorted.)
You have probably gotten to the point that you can safely ignore recent canon events. Enough has changed already
You do what you do Pen Stroke... and I'll just keep read it regardless of the fimfiction breaking canon elements.
The episode's ending was very touching though, and I loved their idea that they added to that room!
That chandelier was a crowning moment of heartwarming. Whoever thought of that on the staff really deserves all the good accolades and feels they can get, because that was a brilliant idea. I didn't see it coming at all, but it was perfect.
Honestly by watching the episode after reading your first three chapters I almost felt as if you had a hoof in writing the screenplay since the concept was so similar. Personally I like your concept more but I doubt that it would fit in a single episode.
In regards to the episode order... You already stated it as an AU so it wouldn't matter, but looking at the episodes I don't see any hints at the continuity other than the table in the throne room. And whose to say they started out on their adventure immediately? It could have been hours, a day, or even a week before they set out.
Still, it doesn't really matter all too much in the grand scheme of things. You have a brilliant series going and many of your readers, myself included, don't care how much you stick to current canon events ^_^
I agree that the tree-root chandelier was an amazing idea. Many people complained about the castle's ugliness (frankly, I think it looks amazing, but it contrasts with the appearance of Ponyville), but I think it looks cool next to that waterfall. While I do like RealityCheck's version, where Nyx planted acorns to make it a real tree, I really loved this one more. It just made a nice change, but while also keeping memories of the old.
Oh, I really hope so, that would be great.
As you said, the line to AU has already been crossed, so nobody should expect continuity. I say embrace the difference and keep rocking on as you do, though sniping good ideas from canon can be a good thing if it fits in your universe. :)
I really like the chandelier idea
Other than the fact that the Cutie Map was there toward the end of the song, there's nothing else that would have made it impossible for this episode to have happened out of chronological order.
That chandelier was beautiful. It deserves to be written into your story

This tends to be the case with a lot of episodes actually, and in fact, for some episodes to make sense a certain amount of *Anachronic Order* is even required.
Notably, for example, the Season-4 premier seemed to suggest all of the events of the previous three seasons happened in less then a single year, as Celestia says the upcoming Summer Sun Celebration is the first since Luna was restored at the previous one. By itself that would only compress the timeline, but it would also mean that only a single winter would have passed since Twilight moved to Ponyville. This means that the pageant in Hearth's Warming Eve (a Season-2 episode) would have to come between the events of Fall Weather Friends and Winter Wrap Up (both Season-1 episodes).
Of course things like that really only matter to those of us fans crazy enough to expect a consistent continuity out of the show in the first place...
2972612 You know what, I was going to say something, but this comment pretty much summed up all my thoughts nicely!
So...
*Holds up Sign with Arrow* Yeah! What he said!
Yeah, Castle Sweet Castle pretty much curbstomped my story idea of 'Oakleaf' where an old earth pony who is the last pony with an oakleaf cutie mark who knows how to treat the endangered Library Oaks visits Ponyville.
